Ruger American unbox and range report.

What a crock the "american"......they ripped off the savage axis likely because the axis will out sell and out shoot the m77.. That's right I said it and I don't even own and axis or a m77... ruger should be ashamed. Its an Savage Axis right down to the trigger.. even the firggen stock looks the same!!!
I'll bet if you look hard enough you can find the Savage Indian head on it the "American" somewhere......LOL

Oh well I guess what they say is true........ imitation is the highest form of flattery!!!!

Sorry about your luck Ruger I guess your about 4 years less inventive than Savage!!!!!
IMHOP!!!!!!!!!

Well you're partially right, but the rotary mag could have a Browning logo and the action looks to be a T3's long-lost cousin. I like to call it "an amalgam of good ideas". Not necessarily a bad thing as those who have bought them can attest. Ruger is a business, they are simply capitalizing on a trend. They are going to sell a ton of these, and I can't really fault them for that.

Considering they're entirely different I have no idea where you're coming from.

The American has as much resemblance internally and externally to the Axis as William Shatner does to Shania Twain.

I hope Brownings rotary mags are nicer than these ones or they are way over priced. And i guess you could say Browning copied Ruger on the rotary mag thing as Ruger was doing this for years now. Just my thoughts

Not saying the American won't sell, just saying the axis(savage) must have lots of good things if Ruger is following along!!!! What it says to me.... Savage is the innovator and Ruger has no vision!!
We'll have to see if the American is an "amalgum of good Ideas" or a cheap rip off of the axis to steal some of the sales market for the savage fans. (could go either way I suposse??)

I just didn't think Ruger would make it so obvious they would rip off the axis and accu-trigger on the same product!!!! at least change the ergos of the injection moulded stock spend some money and grid the die a bit, get rid of the savage Indian sheesh!!!!!!

If i"m the buyer..... I'll stick with the innovator: like buying Kraft dinner and not the "No Name " maccaroni and cheese!!! some people like it but generally it sucks next to the original!!! We"ll have to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Blasted saber

Seriously look at the 2 together.... about the only difference is the cut out where Savage puts the safety. Just sayin

It will be interesting to see how the "American" is received in the shooting world?????
My guess Ruger fans will be Americans
and most everybody else Savage (or at least the innovative ones) HAHAHa!
we"ll see!!!!

Ive handled both of them. The Axis is so optically different in design then any thing else that it bears as much resemblance to the American as it does to my 80 year old Lee Enfield. I wonder if you've actually looked at an Axis before?

Furthermore, "budget" hunting rifles are nothing new. Remington introduced the model 710 as a cheap synthetic stocked budget friendly rifle long before the Axis.

As for the accu-trigger, I cant comment other then it wouldnt be the first time a company (not just firearms companies) copied an innovative idea. Indeed Ruger has been using rotary mags for a long time in their rifles. I cant say but im sure they pre-date the Browning rotary mags.

anywho, I really dont see the similarities here. Beyond them both being bolt action rifles with synthetic stocks they are not really similar at all.

$425...Then put a $300 scope on it + rings Your looking at around $700 for a low budget rifle.

I'd rather just buy a used M77, M70,M700,T3 blued synth with a scope for the same price.

good luck with that. the ee right now is so over priced it is sickening. blued actions are being offered at 700 bucks give or take. its crazy. people need to understand a blued rem should be in the ball park of 500 and ss 625 cause new ins't that far of a leap.

Seroiusly dude they look the same, look at the carve out on the side of the forearm and the texture around the pistol grip.... it"s friggen Savage
or maybe a sheep in wolves clothing????????

Just sayin why did they make it resemble the Axis......I know your gonna say they didn't, yep gotcha, your right I'm wrong blah..blah!!

Don"t have too much to say about the trigger though do ya. duh... looks like a good idea... duh! lets copy that yah.... duh!!!!!!

again enjoy your Savage....opps again... Ruger "American rifle"

The axis doesn't have the same trigger as the american or vice versa... the american trigger is similar to the accu trigger or marlins version though. Its an economy rifle for sure but not a carbon copy of any one design.

EE is not the only place you can buy used guns :D

EDIT: I bought a slightly used T3 blued .308 with opti-lok rings for $500 last winter , Just bought a new Redfield 3x9x50 For $260. All from the EE:dancingbanana:

id like to say i can out shoot this rifle. I have my sightron 10x50 on it... you get what you pay for. Its perfect for the hunt. I could care less to bang it around in the bush... Ill be putting my 3x9 leupold scope on for the hunt in november!

A $2500 savage? If its not too much trouble, please post a pic.

Perhaps it's a $500 rifle and a $2000 scope? :D

Yet another reason I love rifles with Iron sights.

As for the Ruger... That stock is begging for a krylon paint job.
Thanx for the unboxing report. :)

how is this rifle in terms of felt recoil and weight? My axis in .308 was so light and jumpy I sold it.
have the 243 and it is less than 6.25 lbs.An awesome carrying rifle. It shoots as good as a rifle costing 2 or 3 times more.Felt recoil is minimal but it is just a .243.It has one of the nicer recoil pads i have used.I'd but another if and when they chamber it in .223.
