Hi,

I'm pretty new to firearms, and have applied for my PAL. I intend on getting a savage mark II for my plinking and practice, and looking for a second rifle for deer hunting once I take the hunters ed course, and just for long distance shooting in the future.

I lot of people rave about the remington 700 with all its various models, calibers, etc available.

After I saw the PBS special about the faulty safety (the old version required you to take the safety off to open the bolt and unload it), and even the new version having issues, I have to ask, how many people have been able to reproduce this, and is it really that serious of an issue?

I see thousands of people shooting them, on youtube, on the forums, etc. so they have to be a common firearms and well liked.

I was looking at a 700 or a swedish mauser for my long range rifle.
Thanks!

Don't let any of the 'lawyer' crap influence your decision about Remington. The 700 is a fine rifle and an excellent basis for a long range rifle.

You won't get advice from a better source, Dennis has been a top gunsmith for the 40 years I've known him and I happen to agree with him. I have hunted over most of the planet with 700 Rems and they have never let me down, not once.

As long as some garage gun mechanic want to be, hasn't improved the guns function and design it should be fine for at least a couple generations of shooting.

Most of the rifles in that documentry were mucked with by the owners. Also, if you follow the rules of your hunter safty and PAL course this should never be an issue anyway. That makes the only problem that they are remingtons :)

Remember that these "news shows" have been proven to lie in their stories. Such as when the did the story about GMC trucks blowing up but made sure to use something to set it off.

Good to hear you are searching for the truth on the matter.

The problem with Remington triggers going off are guys who have no knowledge try to get a factory trigger down to 1.5 lbs.

If you want you're trigger lighter take it to a qualified smith :HR:

P.S You will notice that the same show has nobody from Remington on it cause they knew they would twist it like that slob Micheal Moore.

Apparently in the media it is a known fact that Remington 700 is extremely dangerous. Could be fatal to even look at one. I have owned several and they worked fine, accurate as well.
