1911's...best bang for your buck....

It's true! SIG's suck IMHO. Too efin light, not a real man's gun. Gave it to the GF.:D

Norinco's rule.

I have 2 sig 1911's. A scorpion and the tac ops. I have a Norc commander (latest run).

There is NO comparison.

If I could use a car analogy.....the sigs are ferrari's, the norc is an e bike

My new Ruger SR 1911. So far, 100rds into it there have been no malfunctions. The trigger pull and reset are fantastic. The Ruger build quality is fantastic. I am now addicted to the 1911 platform.

IMHO the STI Spartan is the best bang for your buck 1911. It's the only one in the $700-$800 price point with great upgrades and custom hand fitting. The Ruger SR1911 is nice but still has yet to build a reputation for itself and so far is not on the same level of expetation as the Spartan in a tightness of parts and accuracy stand point. If the STI Spartan was being offered in stainless steel for the same price they would be getting a lot more attention. This is Rugers main selling point.

I noticed ARMCO sells STI's and other 1911 but seems like they tune them first. Does anybody know if this would be a good idea as a first 1911?
And how are they as a company to deal with?

I bought my sti spartan from armco and was very happy with the service and the trigger. IMHO it is worth the extra over retail to get one tuned rather than find out you would like to get trigger work later which will cost you more in the long run. If I had a budget of 1200 without question I would get a STI trojan based on my experience with STI and internet reviews.

Just my 2 shots worth, I too am new to hand guns and I picked up a new Remington 1911 R1 Stainless and after putting almost 100 rounds through it, I really like it. I let a few other guys try it out too, one with a much more expensive Colt 1911 and he claims it shoots just as good as his Colt. He also said the fit and finish is just as good or better than his colt and he will likely be buying one of these Remingtons for his next 1911.

For $599 at Canada Ammo, I got a Norinco 1911 Police Model with 1000rds. ammo,
with a very good fit and finish with a much improved trigger pull over the older ones.
More accurate than my SIG 220 and at par with the Spartan.
Add to it a Jerico 941 @ $595 at Williams arms, with an excellant trigger pull and accuracy,
and you'll have twice the bang for your buck.
Two very good .45's with 1000 rds for$1194 plus tax.
Anyone criticising Norinco's, hasn't shot one lately, if at all.
My Police model should be coming to my door tomorrow! very excited. i've heard a lot of positive feedback about them. picked mine up at Marstar.com they had it listed as the "Sport Model".

Im new to the forum, but im liking it!

Cheers!

You cant use the Norinco Commander series as a comparison because he wasnt talking about that model. He was talking about the "Police" or "Sport Model".

The commanders are crap.

The Police models are not.

besides, for 350 bucks with most of the reliable bells and whistles stock and virtually 100% compatible with all high-end 1911 parts??

you. cant. go. wrong.

:)

You won't be disappointed, please give us a range report with your shooting results.

Norinco .45 ammo is a good deal, also. $329 a thousand @ CanadaAmmo.

another vote for Ruger SR1911. Coming up on 15 months since I got mine. Have logged 8229 rounds, 8033 of those my own reloads, mostly lead. Much of shooting has been at matches, both weekly fun and monthly qualifiers. No problems with gun, have been very happy. Paid $649US two days after official release, definitely "best bang for buck" that you asked for.

spartan and trojan difference is just fit and finish. The cheaper model is made by armscor in the phillipines and is branded STI.

There is no difference in fit between the 2. The Spartan is assembled in the phillippines with STI parts, other than the slide and frame, and then it goes through STI's QC for fitting, etc. So you are basically getting a custom fitted 1911 in the $700-$800 price range. As for the finish the Spartan is parkerized where as the Trojan is blued.
