That all depends on whether you are a good enough shot under stressfull conditions. The chances of running into an agressive bear are slim at best.

You would be much better off with a short double barrel 12 gauge.
 
I have taken 3 deer and a black bear with my Inland. Not the recommended bear defence but will do the job if you need to. The lightness of the rifle makes it nice for hiking deep up into blacktail country. For mags, aftermarket is hit and miss and everyone of those shorty 5rd mags I had were jamomatics. I'd stick with USGI 5/15 rounders. Never had the 30rds so cant comment. Currently have my "UN-Quality" being barreled up to non-restricted. Cant wait!! Nice to see some more non-res Carbines in country. Hopefully the price of ammo comes down. The Tula ammo is a little hotter and snapped the tab on my slide on the third shot. Lucky for me I had an extra slide. I'd stay away from any steel case stuff in my carbines.
 
Sorry if this has already been asked, but do you know if they will be offering the barrel separately for us poor folk already owning one that's......ahem...... elongation-challenged?

And they say size doesn't matter.

P.S. anybody that hasn't shot a .30 C-C has no idea how much fun they are. It's like being a 10 year old with a .22 again, but adult-sized.
 
^You got it, length of barrel. The 'standard' M1 Carbine came with an 18 1/8" (460mm) barrel, making it Restricted. I'm not sure when they started producing NR carbines originally, or if people just got barrels made for them.
 
Looks like I don't have any available, sorry. One came in and it was the only booking I took 6 months ago.
