Lightweight build in the works

So after much decision making and changes of plan, I have started ordering components for my new build.

Since I have/had so many of the larger long range calibres, I wanted to change things up this time and go with a smaller calibre this time, something in a 6mm. Again after much back and forth the decision was made to go with the 6 Super LR over the .243AI. The whole 6mm world is new to me so I am excited about the opportunity to learn some things about the bullets, ballistics, performance...

The action:
I want this rifle to be a tack driver so either a trued Remington 700 or a premium custom action is a must.
Doing some research on the net and specifically North Shore Barrels website led me to the Pierce Engineering website where I found the perfect action for this build. In the interest of keeping the weight down I found that Pierce makes a Titanium action and recoil lug, perfect! At 58% lighter than the steel and in a short action this should help keep the weight down.
Also ordered through North Shore Barrels was the Pierce tactical bolt knob and 20 moa scope rail, both Aluminum.

The Barrel:
What better way to shed some barrel weight than to shorten the barrel up to 24" and what the hell....lets carbon wrap it. I figure the heavier bullets would be the way to go for this build since it will be a long range gun so 1:8 should work out pretty good for 105 gr Berger Hybrids. Ordered again from Sean at North Shore Barrels is a Benchmark 24" Carbon wrapped, 1:8 twist 6mm barrel.

The Stock:
I won't talk too much about it because we have seen enough of it in the precision forum. XLR Industries Evolution with tactical buttstock and carbonfibre handguard. This again sheds about half a pound from the standard Evolution chassis. I'm not getting the folder to save on weight(and I don't care for it) but I am getting picatinny rails and QD mount. Ordered directly from XLR but there are Canadian Importers like North Shore Barrels and others I'm sure.

To finish the rifle off will be a Jewell trigger, the LR Accuracy bipod(which I may replace with an Atlas if it is too heavy) and USO SN3 3.8-22x58. While the scope will be one of the heaviest things on this rifle, there are some places I won't make compromises and this is one of them.

I was thinking of a lightweight build too, so thanks for sharing your ideas. Why not a McMillan A3 or similar with Edge fill for the stock?

Can't comment for the OP, but with the edge fill you lose the option of adjustable lop, either spacers or 3-way, and adjustable integral cheek-piece.

Again, I wanted something different for this rifle. I have an A5 on my PGW Coyote and have had 3 other McMillans, I have had 3 TRGs and still have a custom Remington in an AICS 1.5. I was actually leaning toward the AICS AX chassis before I saw the XLR here on Gunnutz but the XLR being lighter, I went with that.

I have been thinking of a lightweight build as well. I will look forward to updates on your build. Sounds like it will be great!

Ps any problems importing the stock? Did kyle take care of the paperwork?

I have one xlr already and want the carbon or long action evo

I see. Have they told you how much the Pierce action actually weighs?

Been there, done that: a 9 1/2 pound 270 WSM packs a healthy recoil and heats up very fast.
A lightweight 270 WSM is a fantastic hunting rifle but not much of a target rifle.

I guess I should have asked in a previous post when I asked about the weight of the action, but what are you estimating the total weight is going to be - minus optics?

I still don't know. Maybe 7ish lbs. I am trying to keep it as light as I can but don't have a set goal that I need to be under.

I am actually trying to find who makes good 34mm rings in aluminum or titanium in "high" configuration. USO aren't high enough.
Anyone know?
Nevermind...Found high Titanium rings
