light surface rust on dies and some other equipment

CLR...works pretty good.
Have never needed to use it on any precision stuff, but I don`t think it will hurt anything. If I had some, I'd check the label, but I used it all up on my last Ford :)

It (CLR) will remove light/surface rust just fine. The ingredients in CLR are stuff that is mild and won't harm any metal surfaces (i.e., it has Lactic Acid, Glycol, Gluconic Acid (from fruit and honey and such...) and a "soap" ingredient as well (not the technical term, but it's late...)

Bottom line is, it won't hurt anything. The acids/dispersants/oxidizers are way too mild.
 
I had this happen to a hornady die. sent it to them, they polished it for free.

I also have a lee unit do the same resently, but I doubt it is going to be fixable.
 
Had this happen to my Lee Turret and dies and on the cast itself, very minor rust. I sprayed some RemOil and let it sit for the night and it was fine. I now just put a light coat of CLP on it every couple of weeks and it hasn't happened since!

It's simple to fix. Wet the affected area with oil or lube and polish it with fine steel wool. But it will happen again if you don't figure out a way to stop it, either by finding a dryer storage area or applying a film of oil before you put them away.

CLR will remove light rust but you still have to oil the affected area after using CLR or it will rust again in a few das. CLR will also remove any bluing that it touches.

Really, there is H2O in WD-40?
Why does it displace water so well then.
There is kerosene in it and thus dries the water from the item it is sprayed on.
Either toss the item with rust and keep the economy rolling along or take some light oil(gun oil) and some triple O steel wool and give it a light buff.
All will be good.

Evaporust works very well! I had some dies with more than just a little rust on them. I soak a clean gun cleaning patch in this stuff and drape it over the die, let it set for an hour or so, and the rust easily comes off with some steel wool.

It costs roughly $10 for approximately 1 litre--available in the automotive section at Canadian Tire (and probably elsewhere).

Go to your local K-Crown car rust proofing center and buy a can of T-40, best stuff around....
We use it on automatic weapons after shooting corrosive ammo or blanks....

Best stuff around for cleaning black powder guns and preventing rust....

An yes I have sprayed ALL my loading dies and equipment with it, simply wipe before using, spray after....

Never heard of the place or the product before....can you elaborate?

I just ask because I have an inherent need to own every kind of snake-oil ever invented.....its a psychological thing.....product of the '70s.......
