Model 94 and Hornaday Leverevolution

Hey all,

I'm certain this topic has been beaten to death, but I did a search and didn't come up with anything specific.

I have a 1969 model 94 in 30-30 and plan on using the Hornaday LEVERevolution ammo. I've heard that it has problems cycling in the mag, is this true for all of the guns or just certain years?

Brother uses it in his 94 with no problems. His is a 94ae. Alot of it has to do with the mag. follower.

Yeah, I guess its the shape of the mag follower or something. Mine is not AE though.

My 1972 Model 94 cycles them fine as well. It has been my go-to ammo for four years now in my .30-30.

My 1973 cycles them, just never liked the bullets lack of expansion on big game.

Do you guys put a non-pointed tip in the tube first and then throw in the hornadays or only hornadays

tried 4 rounds in my'71 model94. worked o.k. think i will stay with my170gr.handloads. worked for past 12 years ,probably good for the next 12.

i shot them out of my savage 340. just over a inch at 100. was the best grouping in that gun i found. then i sold it.

Possibly some issues with the pointy tip?

Ive used them for about 6 years now and have had one instance where it jammed in. All I did was shove another shell back in and it worked loose.

The solution, as already pointed out, is to just put a non-pointed shell in the mag first.

I've use them in my 1914-vintage carbine. That rifle doesnt seem to like them.. extraction is sticky and POI is about 24" high at 100 with the irons. Seeing as this is a walking rifle, I saw no need in reinventing the wheel and went back to 170 RN's. My buddys 336 likes them though. I believe in the concept as long as you have an accurate, scoped .30-30.

I had skinner-T make me some followers for a few of my 94's. He knows all about them. I believe he said that Marlin was offering them for their guns, but Winchester was not. I haven't seen him on the site or heard from him for a while. Look him up, the price is right!

I couldn't get them to feed in my 86 in .33 WCF. I wrote to Hornady and they suggested I put a regular shell in first. I would rather shoot flat nose bullets as I won't be shooting past 150 yards anyhow. I sure wish Hornady hadn't discontinued those flat nosed bullets.

If you have problems loading pointed tips in first, try a new follower in your mag. I picked a brand new one up for $2 and haven't had a problem since. Mine had all original parts since it was made and they were starting to rust up in the mag.
