Has anybody tried putting an XS big dot tritium bead (or similar) on a 12.5" 870 barrel from CanadaAmmo?

How much? From where? How did the mounting go? Do you like it? Got pics?

Cheers,

Neal

$60 or so for an XS Big Dot tritium front, bought it used off a guy, attached with epoxy (which was supposed to be pretty much permanent), flew off with recoil, currently considering other mounting options but haven't bothered getting around to researching in more detail.

When it was on there, I loved it. The stock beads on the Grizz barrels are too low (in terms of height) so really liked having a higher front sight on there, and the big white dot with Tritium centre was great for me.

How is the bead bad? It tends to fall off? And is the finish the bead blasted bluing similar to the Express?

tend not to be stright and falls out
finish is worse then the express, but i build alot of combat shotguns so i just refinish them.
eaither park, epoxit based gun paint or out to murdoc for his blackening finish.

Gunsmith put one on my Dominion Grizzly. I believe he used JB weld to put it on.

I ordered the XS sight from somewhere in the US, it took me a while to find one that would mail it too Canada.

Not the best pictures but there it is. I also added a flashlight mount on the left side.

I've been looking at Trijicon ghost rings for mine - drill and tap for the rear (no big deal) but they get kind of fuzzy about the front - epoxy/silver solder (like they can't decide?)

They can't be soldered on because of the tritium. Only a few people have the right tools and equipment to remove the tritium vial in order for them to be soldered on. Tacord is able to do it, the rest of us must use epoxy. On a Remington with the raised pedestal you can also drill and pin the sight after using the epoxy.

That makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

Does anyone in Canada carry them?

I will second that. Just had a CanAm 12.5" barrel show up in the mail this morning and the bead is definitely too low as it sits.

Does anyone know if Brownells will ship it up here? Guess I better email them and find out...

Is your bead on straight? I was looking at one and it was off axis to the bore and the barrel ring.
