8 ball's C8 build progress thread

Another small piece of the puzzle showed up today. Got my 6 hole carbine handguards in.

Looking like it might indeed be a rifle some day!

I see what you guys are saying about the DK stamping. Somewhat disappointing as it was sold to me as a Diemaco upper and I paid a premium for it.:(

It would be too short, but they are similar under the handguards.

C8A2s have a 14.5" government profile barrel on a flat top upper with the M203 cut in the barrel. The CF never had C8A2s. It's a Colt Canada designation. The CF went from C8s to C8 flat tops/C8A1s for Rotos to the C8FTHB with the 16" heavier barrel and then to the C8A3 with the green furniture and ambidextrous controls. The C8FTHB is not the C8A2, they are both different rifles.

I've seen police units with C8A2s but that's it. A 14.5" barrel is correct for a C8A2.

Except the original C8 was never issued with the Diemaco TRIAD. Only the C8A2 and onward.

Not completely accurate. They never left the factory like that I'm sure, but Triad mounts have been added after the fact since at least 2003.

As for the C8A2, I assumed you meant the A3. The barrel on the Colt Canada website appears to have the M203 cutout in a different position, not sure why, or if it's just playing tricks with my eyes.

So after doing a bunch of online research I am forced to conclude that the DK marked upper I have is actually a Bushmaster and not a Diemaco as originally thought. It will work fine for this project, however it is not what I had thought it originally was, and it is NOT what I had payed for. Guess I should have done a little more research before I forked over the cash. Buyer beware and all that......

Wolverine Supplies appears to have some 14.5" 1/7 4150V chrome lined Green Mountain barrels that would be well suited to your C8 clone, price seems reasonable too. Just have someon turn down the front portion to proper C8 specs and install a FSB. If I had the spare cash I'd pick one up for my own C8 project.

A shame about your upper, but regardless of the pedigree it will still make a nice clone.

FWIW, I have a Bushmaster A1 upper on mine and it's fine. But then, I also used a regular Armalite lower as well. I was more concerned with specs and less with markings.

Happy though.
