I had a few people ask about the gun so here's a mini review

I bought it several weeks ago and just took it out today for the first time. It's a really well built gun with excellent fit and finish. The receiver is milled from aluminum, the gas system is essentially straight from the Benelli M4, and it comes with the Nordic extension, vent rib, top rail, glow sight, and rail/sling barrel clamp.

I did nothing to the gun, I didn't even disassemble it for cleaning before the first shoot. I put 50 rounds of S&B 'reduced recoil' slugs through it today without a single hiccup. It shoots fast, soft, and straight! The action is buttery smooth, the trigger nice and crisp, and the overall feel of the gun is superb. If you didn't tell me, I'd swear it was a Benelli... and I hear some parts are even interchangeable, actually. Some guy on a 3-gun forum bolted a Benelli pistol-grip stock right on; he also claimed the entire trigger group from an M2(I believe he said M2 and not M4) drops right in.

After playing around on the short combat range with slugs, I took it to the trap field and loaded up some Winchester Target loads. I forgot my IC choke at home, so the breacher stayed in place! This was my first time shooting trap so I wasn't sure what to expect. The gun performed flawlessly, eating up the light target loads effortlessly. Again, not a single hiccup. I shot 50 rounds and by the second batch I had a good handle on things, hitting most of the targets with relative ease. Unfortunately I also forgot my torx wrenches at home, so I couldn't remove the rail from the receiver... it basically blocks the vent rib bead and sight, so I was shooting somewhat 'blind'.

I couldn't be happier with this thing. Money well spent! Its my first semi 12ga and I basically bought it after getting to shoot an M4 a few months ago... I was really impressed with the Benelli and how smooth/fast it was. At the same time I wanted a gun that would be a little more versatile, and with the 22" barrel and vent rib I think this Remington is spot-on.

It doesn't seem like they're very readily available in Canada, and it did just come out recently so accessories are probably a long ways off... but if you're looking for a semi to fit multiple roles (skeet, hunting, 3-gun, whatever) make sure you don't overlook this thing. They aren't kidding about the versatility and reliability of this gun.... it's 100% right out of the box.

note: I measured the chamber, pics on page 4; it's 3.5" even though Remington advertises it as 3"

Nice shotty man. I was actually looking for this shotgun months ago, but couldn't find one and ended up getting a Mossberg 930 SPX.

If you don't mind sharing, where did you purchase it?

Any shop that can order Remington should be able to get it.. you'll have to call around, I stumbled into this one. So far I see that TSE has it listed but out of stock, at $1299..

That would be 5 shells of the longest shells it was designed for.
For instance, if it was designed for and it holds 5.75 .....3" shells, it stands to reason that you would be able to fit 6..... 2 3/4" shells in the magtube. If the gun was designed to use 3 1/2" shells, one might even be able to fit 7 ....2 3/4" shells.
Clear as mud?

If a guy was a hand loader, he might even be able to mqke himself some 2 1/2" shells!;)

Silly system, ain't it?

I forgot to point out one negative (I guess)... it only took 4x 2-3/4 in the mag tube. The gun is advertised as 2-3/4 - 3", but the chamber is actually same as all the Versa Max guns... 3.5"

I just picked one of these up yesterday. I can't wait to get it out on the range. I wonder if they will be offering any shorter barrel options in the near future? With regards to the extended mag, when I ripped mine apart for a pre-range inspection and cleaning, I did notice that there is a stopper glued into the extension. So I guess it's kinda there for show.

Remington has shorter barrel models for police and military, its called the R12. No word on if/when those will make their way up here, but unless they're priced very aggressively I'd say they will have a hard time competing against the M4

With the 22" barrel, it would be great for playing the shotgun games such as IDPA. Better yet if it had its full mag capacity!

The R12 looks interesting, however I'm sure it'll cost as least as much as an M2 Tactical and display a lot of little lapses in attention to detail that modern American manufacturers are plagued with.

If I use my Versa Max as the benchmark, I see no such lapses in detail. It really is a well built gun.. and so far on its first outing, performed admirably.

I would definitely pick the R12 over an M2 tactical.. I think the gas system is worth the price of admission. I wouldn't pick it over an M4 though, that gun is too nice.

R12 has an 18" barrel, so restricted unless modified.

Maybe, but Remington also lists their 870Ps as being 18" when they're really been 18.5" for years now.

Also I notice the 18" R12 model mag extensions are flush with the end of the barrel as you see on 18.5" guns instead of protruding slightly like you see with actual 18" barrels.

Granted its possible that the R12 mag tube is a little longer than other Remington shotguns?

All I know is that a 5+1 3.5" gun that can cycle 2.75" shells gives me a funny feeling in my pants.

I like the idea of a 3.5" chambered tactical shotgun, not because many people are going to be using 3.5" shells, but in having such a long loading and ejection port should make it a bit easier to feed shorter shells in a hurry.
