I have experienced the "Gremlin" a couple of times. However, this time I have taken off the pistol grip and am trying to release the sear to drop the firing pin. I have been pulling the sear (depressing it) and it is not releasing. So I am somewhat stuck as I cannot strip the rifle. Any suggestions?

Is there any smiths that are working on these that can get the problem fixed once and for all?

Thanks,

Mike

Awesome responses thus far...

I put the word "gremlin" in the search, dozens of threads like "How to get rid of the infamous CZ/VZ gremlin (Multi-page thread 1 2)"

It looks like you want someone else to do the reading and fix it for you.

other explanation for not knowing your own gun then sprouting a bad attitude?

I have read every thread on this and actually fixed it once already. This time it isn't working. Thanks for responding like I am a two year old. I will figure it out.

I bought my CZ-858 back in February from Reliable and encountered the gremlin. I returned it back to Reliable to have their gunsmith fix the problem but I encountered it again the next time I went to the range. Reliable sent it back to the CZ repair shop in Winnipeg to replace the faulty parts and so far so good.

Sorry, I probably got in the way of the hoards of people trying to help

Your attitude will confuse people when it comes to your age. We can't see you, so I just assumed.

did you take off the pistol grip and pull down on the sear? if you can't get to the sear pull down on the sear spring and pull the charging handle to the rear as far as it will go while holding down on the sear spring it should allow the striker to come forward unless something is jammed up. there are lots of threads on this and a stickey. maybe your pin retention clip got flipped up and jammed the striker. dental picks from princess auto can be of help.

ok i understand it is that the striker is stuck to the rear and he can't take it down. but why does the trigger not act on the sear? gremlin...the one where you have slop in the sear bushing. or... he has his pin retention clip in the open position and that is jamming the striker not allowing it to come forward.

I've been having the same problem with mine. I've also been calling it the gremlin even though the effect seems to be the opposite of what's usually described. I tried the spacer fix and it worked for a bit but then there was too much pressure on the pin and it pulled the sear out of alignment just the same. As for how I've been taking it down when it screws up, mine seems to be able to catch intermittently so I've been racking it and pulling the trigger until it eventually catches, then taking it down. Going to trim down my spacer a bit, try and make it a better fit without pushing the pin out. Really is an annoying problem to have especially after putting hundreds of rounds through it without issue

you could also try buying a parts kit i think wolverine still gets them in trade out some parts like the sear and the trigger. what is the wear like on your engagement surfaces? got pictures? some times a part can be out of spec and cause problems...
