Where to buy a piece of brass stock to pound a stuck bullet out?

Anybody know where to get a piece of brass stock to pound a stuck 38 out? Had some ammo that I thought I had culled the questionable ones, but apparently I missed one. It made it 5 1/2" down a 6" barrel?

Wood dowels can cause more problems than they solve should they fracture while pounding the bullet out.

Some dealers stock squib rods for immediate shipping. Armco springs to mind.
 
While it is true that Pool cues are very good hardwood, and are unlikely to break while pounding out a bullet, I doubt you will find many cues that will go down a .350" diameter bore.
I would not trust most common dowels to do this job.

Can Tire has them in their hardware/tool areas. I have several that I use for barrel slugging in different diameters.
 
If its 5 1/2" down the barrel, then that means it needs to go back 5 1/2" out thru the forcing cone. Safest way is either a piece of hardwood rod or brass if you can find it easily. I think the Hardwood would most likely work. Drill a corresponding size hole in a piece of wood that the dowling can fit into and hit that instead of directly on the rod-safer as well since you don't want to hit the muzzle.
 
I think some better quality cues that are very slim near the end may go into the .35" hole.
If he stands the gun on the muzzle and puts a good shot of a penetrating oil like kroil or Liquid Wrench in it, lets it sit overnight, it will almost fall back out in the morning. Well, that's stretching it, but most any wooden dowel would likely take it out in the morning.
 
Home depot for sure, and maybe canadian tire or home hardware depending on your local store, will have 1/4 inch brass rods in 3 or 4 ft lengths for 10-15 bucks. You can't go wrong with that. It won't mar your rifling, it won't splinter/break and get stuck EVER, so why bugger around with finding a special piece of hardwood dowel that's going to cost you the same money and MIGHT still cause you problems?

Buy 2, so you can cut one into a 4 inch, 8 inch, 1 foot, and 2 foot sections. It's a lot easier to start pounding a bullet out (or pounding a slug in) with only an inch or two of the rod sticking out of the barrel so it doesn't bend.
 
For those of us that don't live in large urban areas Walmart is only something we read about. But old Mom and Pop hardware stores can be a goldmine if you think outside the box. Some makes of toilet valves use a solid brass rod that goes from the flush lever to the chain that lifts the flapper valve. But old pool cues? C'mon guys. Why not suggest that we use the hickory shafts from antique golf clubs? We all have buckets of those just sitting around as well.

Why make this complicated on the poor guy?

Go get yourself a loooong 1/4" steel bolt, wrap it in electrical tape till it is just under bore diameter so it won't damage anything, pound away.

Done it several times on 9mm with no I'll effects.
