Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50? FFP?

I have a Remington 700 5R Milspec chambered in .308. I am looking to do some medium to long range target shooting with it. I currently have a 10X fixed power Bushnel Elite Tactical 4200. I find it is okay out to about 250 yards but gets difficult after that.

I am looking at the Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24X50.

Any thoughts on this scope? I am hoping to be able to take it out to 600 yards or more. It seems like a mid range scope and I know that a $2500 scope would be a better match for my rifle, but its just not in the budget right now.

I also noticed this scope is being advertised as a First Focal Plane scope. I notice that almost every tactical scope this year is being offered in FFP. I know how the technology of FFP works, but I am wondering what your experiences are on FFP.

Any idea what model of Bushnell Elite the new Tacticals are based on? It resembles a 6500 but not sure. They dont really tell you anymore.
 
I had an elite 6500 4.5-30x. It wasn't the FFP model. However, I can say that the optical clarity isn't worth the $900 price tag. The scope displayed lots of chromatic abberations ( purple fringing) and lacked sharpness and contrast at 30x.

I now own an elite 4200 8-32x with a 40mm objective. This scope is probably 6" longer but the optical clarity is much much better. Less chromatic abberations. Sharpness and contrast at 32x is pretty dam good. As a bonus, this scope sells for about $550. I got mine used for $400. I would recommend this scope. You can get it at italian sporting goods in Vancouver.
 
I own a 2.5x-16x 42mm (6500 "Tactical")... All I can say is that 16x is pretty much the maximum useable range on Bushnell's optics... Unless you just want to make an obvious target in your scope really, really big...
 
Thanks for the feedback. The one I am looking at goes for about $900 around here in Victoria.

If not the Bushnell, what is a good 24X or so scope for around that price? Keeping in mind I am doing mostly targety shooting with this rig. I have a different setup all together for hunting and another for plinking.
 
I had read a review on a different forum where the fellow was complaining that it only had 45 MOA of adjustment.
 
I use it on my 700LTR ,308, Been using it for about 3 years with no issues, clear and reliable.. mind you I haven't shot past 200m.. i mainly keep it around 8-12x.. i use 24x when i'm too lazy to change to my spotting scope to see my holes :D

I just bought a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 for my varmint rifle but compared it with a few other scopes and if you are looking for long range on a budget I would seriously look at a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP. They are in your budget and are getting rave reviews from actual users. Nice options on that scope like zero stop, FFP or SFP reticle, Mrad or MOA, illuminted reticle. They also have a lifetime not bs warranty. The glass was pretty darn close to the Zeiss in bought. Only downside to this scope is they are never in stock ;)
 
I have the 6245T version, IIRC on the model #. I use it frequently past 400 yds. and it is good but doesn't have the come up needed for center crosshair shots over about 700 yds. I'm not using(couldn't use) a 20 MOA base due to this lack of adjustment.

However it is a tactical model scope, meaning it is designed to be used inside about 200 yds. However that doesn't mean it performs poorly @ longer range.

My actual come up adjustment is .228" and not .250."
The scope itself is good, same POI @12x or 24X @ 400+ yds.
Some color aberration around outer edge @ 24x in bright sunlight if parallax adjustment is slightly off.

I'm happy with the scope and currently use it on a tactical rifle on yotes.
 
I've got a Bushnell 6500 4.5-30x50 that I've been using for a year, and I'm quite happy with it. I should say, was happy with it. I just got a Sightron 10-50x60 from Jerry and used it for the first time yesterday, and I think it's twice the scope the Bushnell is. Nice clean picture all the way to 50x, 1/8 adjustments, and very comparable in price to the Bushnell.

With the Sightron, I can see the holes at 900yds. :dancingbanana:

You've got lots of options in your price range. Good luck.
 
The 6500 4.5-30x50 is not the same as the ET 6-24x50 FFP. Why people keep bringing it up I don't know.
The 4200 6-24x50 FFP has 48 MOA of adjustment. Which I find perfect on a 20 MOA base as it gives about 44MOA. This is more then enough to get to a 1000yards with 175gn SMKs.
The newer ET version last 2 model years has about 70MOA. With a 30MOA base that gets you about 65MOA. Good to about 1300yrds.
 
I saw it at Wanstalls and decided not to buy it. If was FFP but the rectical was too big covering lot of space. Also the scope is huge and heavy. Comparing with Smith and Bender - Heaven and Hell :-D
Go to a retail store to check one first.
 
it's supposed to be an excellent optic for the money. i would wait for juan valdez to do his review, i would disregard most of the other responses as there seems to be a fare share of confused individuals commenting here.
