EDIT: i guess this should be in the hunting section! sorry i just relized that after i submited this thread!

well a couple of days ago i was driving up the road scouting for mule deer and i saw one laying on the side of the road. i thought he was dead so i walked up there to see what was up. it turend out he was still alive but could only move his head back and forth and up and down?!?! he didnt look like he got hit with a car or truck or a car becasue there was no blood and no signs showing it had been. right away i called the head DNR office and they said they would send someone out. 10 min later they said they couldnt send someone out so they sent the rcmp out. they got there and we taked and both agreed that the deer looked sick and had no signs of being hit. so they got the shotgun out and put two rounds into the head of the deer! he was a decent buck with lots of mass, kickers, and starting to get a drop tine! i def woulda pass this year but i would of loved to see that deer next year or even two years from now! oh well i guess. here are a couple of pics.

Well that takes the fun out of any sport.
Glad the lad's put the buck out of it's delema.
Did they make any effort to determine the cause of misfortune?
I.E, take any DNA and send it off to the lab?

i didnt see them take any dna but i left there before they did. They said" we are probably going to go back and try to find out what was wrong with it" but i dont think they ever did.

The bucks face looks young, however his antler formation appear the opposite. My guess is that he either had some disease or dying of old age.:D

CWD is my guess.

Lot of it around in Sask and Eastern AB

nice shot placement... only now there's not much of the head / brain matter to send in for CWD testing. But I can't remember if its brain or spinal tissue they use for CWD testing.

Could of still been hit by a vehicle. Iv seen deer be hit and on the outside they seem fine but have internal bleeding, broken bones ect.

I agree, very well could have been hit, that would be my guess. Truck bumpers are big and can do a number on an animal without breaking the skin. I had the very thing happen years ago a deer laying in the ditch spooked when I came up on it, and it jumped the wrong way and hit the truck in midair. Same deal looked fine, but could only flop around its head. Lucky I was 1/4mile from home, able to get gun and stop the suffering. One side was still good but the other side was bloodshot.
