Looking to get a scope for a .22lr to hit steal at 200-400 yards. Prefer for it to be more on the cheap then expensive say 300$ max. Equal to the rifle cost. Needs lots of elevation adjustment. My current 10/22 has a simmons 3x9x32 mag and it works quite well for a 50$ scope. But the has no parralex. But i need more mag i think.

I'll add my 2 cents worth here. I'm not sure of the merit of shooting that distance with a .22 since 75 yards is its optimum range and depending on the ammo at 150 yards its already dropped up to 2 feet. I will relate my recent experience with my Ruger 10/22 that has had close to 2000 rounds put through it. I purchased it with a cheap $50 scope but was extremely dissapointed with its accuracy and the clarity of the optics. I was lucky to group 2" at 50 yards having thought that a 10/22 is just not that accurate. An avid target shooter at an adjacent bench suggested a Bushnell Banner 4X12X40 parallax corrected scope which he saw at Wal-Mart for $114. I purchased the scope and instead of using the narrow high rail of the 10/22 receiver mount purchased Weaver mounts, removed my rear sight and low mounted it on the wide rail. I could not believe the difference since I did not change my shooting technique and used bullets from the same bulk box as previous but was now grouping so close they were either touching or you could cover then with a dime at 50 yards.

40.25moa of up will get you too 300 yards with Federal target match 40gr stuff. I have one 22lr build that now has 90.25 moa of up and that will get me to 500y+ using the match ammo. The Moa adjustment of the scope and the scope mount will be the limiting factors on how far you can go. Plenty of threads on the long distance shooting here in the rimfire section. Bushnell 10x Tactical has 80 moa of adjustment if you can match the rings/mounts.

LOL, not even sure where to start...I don't wanna sound like a #### but isn't this kind of like trying to merge onto a highway on a bicycle ?

There are members here who regularly shoot 220 yards with .22LR with good quality ammo. I've shot with them a couple of times and got myself setup with a Bushnell 6x-24x 40mm.

I like the scope out but I would suggest more imagination to reach out further.

A couple others there shoot with the Tasco 10x-40x varmint scope that is cheaper.

The problem exists if you want to shoot both close and far range. There are a number of excellent scopes which will get you way out there (Bushy 10x mil-dot), but they don't have the paralax adjustment to shoot inside 100yds.

Depending on the size of target you really don't need much magnification. 16x is fine for 2moa targets at any range so long as the reticle isn't too thick.

I'd recommend putting another $2-300 into the optics pot to cover a decent mount and rings. Although there are a few really good, cheap options from the airgunning world.

So if a scope specs say it has 50 moa max elevation adjustment that means it really only has 25 up correct? so i would need another 25 from a base/rings? I just ask because i saw a vortex crossfire II 6-18x40 for 230$ and it had 50moa max elevation adjustment.

I would do one of two things; 1) increase your budget for better glass so you can likely see your hits on paper should you desire (I had an SIII 6-24x50 on my .22lr Savage and was shooting 3MOA at 300m with 4 feet of drop lol) 2) find cheap optics with very good glass and buy Burris Signature Zee rings so you can get 20MOA cant without buying a rail and you can stick with a scope that may have more limited elevation

You just need to work on your LR skills;) I am just shooting at a 12" steel plate for giggles but can do that no problem at 300y with a 10/22 match setup. This is the same type of moa required to get a 308 to a 1000yards:sniper: There are guys in the rimfire section hitting smaller targets at 500yards with a 22lr. (see the posted videos) Don't underestimate the range of a 22lr, just the wind will be an evil thing!

We shoot to 200m; another club shoots to 300m.
As far as sights go, getting enough elevation is the hurdle.
In all likelihood, there won't be enough elevation in the scope, unless it is an exceptional one. The mounting system can give extra elevation. A scope with a mildot reticle might be useful. Adds elevation, using the dots.
Unless the OP's 10/22 has been tweaked, groups are going to be pretty open at axtended ranges.
And wind flags and streamers are really important.

If you really want to spend money try a set of rings like these-

That will allow you to tilt most scopes to use all of its adjustment range for the "up". The scope you have has 60 moa, if you used it all it would get you past 400yards no worries:)

Even the cheaper rings with 20moa of adjustment would work to get you out there;) Just the Zee rings rings would be enough to play past 300y with the scope you have, count how much adjustment you have right now before you spend the $$$.

Depending on how handy you are you can modify an airgun "drooper" mount. They have some available with upwards of 40moa. Cheap too.
