Love my 2001 era 1895GS. It has lots of Wild West parts - the Happy Trigger is a MUST!

What year production do you have? Find it reliable as any other?

:redface:I guess I should know the production year but I don't. Can it be determined by the serial number?? I've pushed quite a number of heavy jacketed reloads through it, in addition to fair volume and variety of cast loads and haven't experienced any problems whatsoever. My only complaint or change I'd like is a pistol grip butt stock VS the present straight stock design. With the max loads the rifle is capable of handling, the straight stock/lever design can be a little hard on the fingers.

I have a couple of other Marlins and haven't experienced any problems with any of them. I have an old 1894 in 44-40 I picked up from a relative for;)nostalgic reasons. About all I put through it is cast loads for a bit of off hand practice.

And my first Marlin, a 444S in 444 Marlin which has accounted for a few Moose, Deer and Black Bears using 265gr Hornady bullets in reloads.

On the 444S and the 1895GS I've mounted low power variable scopes using Weaver pivot mounts. The scopes help in load testing, paper punching and compenstaing for eye sight that isn't quite what it used to be. The Weaver pivot mounts give me access to the open sights should that be a need.
