Does anyone knows about à PPK in 9mm instead of the .380?

I saw the James Bond new movie thriller tonight and saw that what I believe is à new pistol.

If im not mistaking, the construsction (fixed barrel) of PPK will not hold the presure of 9x19 round, So they have been using lighter calliber.. I could be wrong... ;)

You can get a fixed barrel or unlocked slide 9x19 pistol to work. The problem is the spring pressure and weight of the slide need to be greater, and that in turn creates other user issues.

I didn't watch the trailer, but is it possible they refered to 9mm Browning (9x17 or .380)

The design of the PP/PPK pistols is not safely suitable for the much, much higher pressures of the 9mm Para cartridge. As was written above, pistols that fire 9mm Para rounds without a "locking device", use very heavy recoil springs or slides, or both. The H&K VP-70 is a good example, as is the Spanish Astra Model 400 of 1921.

I don't know what Bond uses in the new film, but if it's 9mm Para, it isn't a PPK, at least not the traditional one.

Walther did make a few protoypes of a straight blowback 9x19mm called the MP. It resembled a scaled up PP. This approach was soon abandoned as impractical and Walther went on to develop what later became the P38.

they probably used the term 9mm short just to tailor it to the american audience that will understand / hear 9mm quicker over 380 acp in a fly by trailer. might not even be a final cut line from the movie

And to further dash your hopes the PP and PPK are prohibs. And judging by your CGN join date I suspect that you're a fairly new shooter so you won't have wandered in here with your 12-6 prohib status attached.

A PP with a "restricted" barrel would not look too out of place. But the smaller PPK with a restricted length barrel simply looks far too much like Pinocchio after too many lies.... :D Some time back I did some image doctoring to see what a PPK with a legal restricted barrel would look like. It was simply too ugly for words and I didn't even save the resulting picture.

About the closest you'll get and still be good looking would be the restricted barrel length Maks imported by the CGN site sponsor Interammo. Here, have a look.

I've shot a Mak belonging to a buddy that has his 12-6. A fun gun but I don't NEED to get into another reloading size with brass which is less common and with a gun which does not meet the power factor needed for a lot of the competitions I like.

I didn't catch the "short" word in the trailer. Chances are that if they did, it's for thé general audience.

I wrote to Walther Pistol Company to ask, but thé didn't replied yet.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

i had a restricted Walther PPK before.. it didnt look too bad. It came with a fake silencer, James Bond style.

Also the VP70 has super deep rifiling that bleeds off expanding gasses to forward of the bullet in the barrel to reduce presure and the recoil impulse significantly. If it did not have that feature, the slide would have to be even heavier.

i own a restricted ppk. many do. would you rather have a ugly long barrel ppk than no ppk at all because im not an old bastard blessed with 12-6?

380=9mm kurz (short). 9mm Browning is yet another cartridge. - dan
Hey Dan, think you may want to check your source on that. .380ACP, 9mm Kurz, 9x17, 9mm Browning Short are all the same cartridge. If you have some info that can prove me wrong, far be it from me to ignore it.
