Black Bear in my yard... (wrong forum maybe...)

Just like fishing for Rock Bass

:)CATCH - KILL - RELEASE:)

I suggest doing as others have already said. Get yourself a tag and take him down on day one of the hunt.
I can only imagine a bear hunt where I don't have to drag the beast a long distance out of the bush.
The population is high and on the rise. They are getting more and more intrusive as they search for food.

It's all bush for km's behind my house. There is also a grass run way back there where I saw him last night when I was out with my dog. he was crossing the run way traveling in the direction of my house, and bam that's where I saw him an hour later! I might go way back there and try and bait him out there, and get a tag and wait for Sept 1! :D

To add to that, I wouldn't want to shoot him in my yard, as I'm close to the highway, and there is a subdivision across the road. Either someone would call the cops at the sound of a gun shot, or if I hit him with my bow I wouldn't want him to run out into a neighbours yard, or the highway. So I think I'll hike back into the bush a km or so and maybe try baiting him there. Plus it'll keep him away from other houses.

What is the discharge by laws in your neighbor hood. If you start baiting by the house he will never leave and your neighbors will be pissed. If can discharge a gun you should wait for him. Baiting is great on crown land. Baiting to attract a bear close to peoples homes not a great idea. May attract more bears. If the discharge by laws allow it hunt him. If not remove all the food around your place.

Thats why I'm going to do it way back in the bush. There is nothing outside my house now that he can get in to, unless he likes hot peppers and potato plants.

He looks small-medium ish to me but it's hard to tell for sure without a dead on shot to look at the width of his ears. His ears look fairly large which suggests a young bear.

From a track; In my experience the width of the track in inches plus 1 equals the length of the bear nose to tail in feet. This has been true for the 10 or so dead bears I've measured.

I enjoy looking at bears but If you have children I personally wouldn't tolerate a bear that close to my house...

To the OP if you like bear meat then by all means have at him on the first of september. I don't know how big a bear it takes to have a 9" paw, but he looks like a shooter to me. happy hunting.
