Got my 73 new here in Ontario (20" barrel, case coloured, octagon barrel) for about $1500.00 tax in, then the short stroke kit, spring kit and gun smith was about another $250.00

Peter was supposed to be coming to my match back in July, never got to see him. Bought some parts from him, good guy.

That price also included the taxes.
 
For cost one does not need to jump in the deep end of the pool right off the bat unless they have no other way.

My own setup at the moment is;

Two Pietta 1873's - one used that was $400 and the other new for $525 - $925
Rossi/Puma Win '92 clone. $600 With gunsmith slicking up call it ------- $800
Biakal SxS which I cut down and filed off the ends to 20" barrels --------- $280
Mexican made gun leather which is now two years old and doing fine ---- $120

Total - $2125 OK, add on another $15 for the cowboy hat I found at Value Village to round it up to $2140... :D

I know the rifle is holding me back a little. But it's all for fun and I do enjoy tinkering so I'm going to keep trying to make the Rossi work better. Some would argue that the Win'92 actions are not the best setup. And at least in .357 I might just agree. But I'm not done tinkering with it yet... :D

But it also shows that one does not need to go overboard if they want to keep the costs of cowboy action shooting a little under control.

Yessir. Getting my uncle into it. He bought my semi-slicked Puma for $500 and two Single action pistols for $800. He's a $400 shotgun away from a $1700 set up in 357.

God I miss my Puma. :( I hated levers until I got that gun and started working on it.
 
One gentleman I shoot with started with a pair of new Uberti .357mag $1000, a new Henry Rifle $625, a used IGA SxS 12ga $350.
Total $1975 plus Tax on new items. Leather from Cabelas was about $250.00
He's since then sold his Uberti and bought Piettas.
It is possible to get started on a budget, I started with a New Puma M92 .357mag $700, a pair of Rugers new $1300 and a new IGA Coach gun SxS bought it all over a 18 month period.
Rifle is now a 66 Yellowboy all in about about $1900 but I still have the 92. Leather I went custom right off the bat about $550 rig, shotshell bely and badges holder.
For a while I got all of my family and friends to throw all Bday, Christmas, Fathers day etc. etc. gifts in the CAS gun fund, that really helped.
