The Canadians in Italy equiped with S & W revolvers in S & W .38 would use German ammo and clip the rimless head with snips so that they would not eject. Used them OK.

You're lucky the cylinder didn't split on you. The .38S&W has a max pressure of only around 12,000 CUP while the 9mm Luger rounds are up over 30,000CUP. That's a whole heap of a lot of difference and not something I'd want to expose my own body parts to being around when it lets go. The fact that the guns didn't frag themselves was good luck more than good planning.

The 547 breech face showing the firing pin and the retainer pin above it. As the 9mm is a tapered case, the retainer pin strikes the case as the firing pin strikes the primer to prevent the case from setting back and binding the cylinder.
Note the marks on the case head from the retaining pin. Best seen on the two cases on the right.
That Satin Nickel 547 is a beauty, Tekarra! I'm going to get that 3" round butt one done up the same way as soon as I can find someone who will do it.
The 940 cylinder wall thickness (thinness?) has always impressed me. There's nearly nothing there, certainly less than the WWII .38 S&W revolvers that desperate Allied soldiers would shoot 9mm out of. I hear that happened in Africa too. The original 9mm conversion...
