Anyone selling powder in smaller quantity ? like quarter pound...

I would like to buy a few different powders but in smaller quantities, just to try them and see what's the best for my 25-06

just enough to load 20 rounds maybe...

Do you know of a place or a person that can do this please?

online is OK, also I'm in Montreal.

You could try higginson powders - besides proper bottles/jugs, he often has powders in bulk, and portions then into pounds (bag in a box) - maybe he could do smaller quantities. He's in Hawkesbury, so not tooooo far from Mtrl, if shipping prices became an issue.

There are a number of CGN sponsors who sell powder as well - I only mentioned Higginson first because of the bulk package nature - hopefully other dealers will chime in, for future reference.
 
I asked him. he can do 16 onces, and 12 onces for some powder...
I'm thinking 4 onces...

I guess it would be a lot of trouble, but I've often thought that it would be nice to buy powder and bullets in trial-sized packs, enough for about a box of shells.
 
Get yourself a 1lb of IMR4350 and have at it .its one of the most versitile powders for the 25-06 with different weight bullets.
 
yes for sure I am going to buy the IMR 4350....

still. it would be fun to be able to buy in smaller quantities. shop at Powder Bulk Barn !... or come and shop at Powder Depot.... hehe
 
Ask around at gun clubs I guess

I use 49 grs of varget with 75gr vmax for 3500fps and 52grs imr4831 for 117gr interlocks at 3100fps. Both loads are moa at 100 yards in my rifle
 
The problem with the 25-06 is that all of the powders used for it have similar burn rates.

Buying powder in small lots can be a real mistake. For one thing, different lots of powder, even of the same description will burn differently and give you different POIs from lot to lot.

Last year, I noticed that IMR was selling four different speeds of powders in 4 oz lots. The thing is you had to buy all four.

What you need to do, is either go to gun shows and pick up part containers. Same goes for the different bullet weights you intend to shoot. Then, just understand this will only put you in the ballpark for velocity and accuracy.

Personally, I like the slower powders for the 25-06, like H4831 or as mentioned IMR 4350. They both behave well from lot to lot and will cover just about any bullet weight you want to shoot. Both are also very consistent with magnum primers.
 
Make a local friend who reloads who will give you a bit of some different powders to try. Where are you in the country?
 
Does Hodgdon no longer sell it's 4X4 oz sample packs?

If so, buy one "Rifle" and one "Magnum" and load away.
 
i got a real nice load with reloder 22 with the 115gr TSX bullets. 50gr of powder worked very well in this older winchester rifle I loaded for a friend of mine. FS
