My Swiss Arms Story: UPDATE Post#162, My Theory on the Extraction Issues

Perfect :)

Is the gas block/piston 2 position adjustable?

Yes it is, and a malfunction has not occurred on Setting 2 however setting 2 is not suggested for prolonged use as it is only meant for extreme cases of carbon build up or ice.

Oh, and is the steel ejector machined into the actual receiver or is it a bolt/pinned-on piece?

Machined as part of the receiver

What's the longest (round count) you have run it on setting 2?

So it kind of sounds like the gun is not cycling hard enough on setting 1? Short stroking, perhaps?
But when on setting 2 which allows more gas, it cycles hard enough to kick the cases clear.

I certainly don't know, I do know we aren't about to figure it out on CGN, I just thought there were some folks who would be interested in hearing the goings on

Same thing, I remember because when it happened the first time I was SO surprised I nearly crapped

What I find bizarre is that between round 230 and 4400, you had not one issue, but the exact same failure.

"Should've stuck with an XCR"...
(kidding, kidding...)

That's really tough, Steve. It certainly sounds like The Shooting Edge went above and beyond in an attempt to resolve your issue. On the plus side, when you do eventually get it back - you should be good for at least another 5,000 rounds. ;) Here's hoping they're able to refurbish/replace it for you, and that you don't have to wait too much longer. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I was wondering when you'd rear your little head and make an XCR comment. Just can't resist, can you? It's so old it hurts.

A good clue is that it cycles properly on setting 2.

My first thought on that was "why not just run it on setting 2?" lol

OP - do they happen to mention what happens when you run it on setting 2 for extended periods of time?

Ever changed the mainspring(action spring)?

Firearms in general are very precise pieces of equipment, it's always surprised me how there aren't more failures regardless of the design. It's interesting how this still happens even with a ton of replacements of parts. Maybe this is just something beyond explanation.

I'm looking into getting a Swiss Arms when funds allow, and your post hasn't scared me away. I'm just sorry it happened to you. I think it would be very interesting if Swiss Arms over in Switzerland got their hands on it and had their techs really rip it apart and see what's happening, it could be revealing. With that said, if Swiss Arms wants to get it to Switzerland to see what's going on, they should foot the bill to do so. I'm sure they can afford it and they're obviously interested in what's happening.

As I said, sorry to hear this. At least everyone seems have to gone above and beyond thus far, as I would have expected.

Hopefully it gets all fixed, and quick.
