Has the u.s. ever made a sks? The reason I ask is that a co worker is dead set on saying the Americans made a sks. I had told him he is wrong but would still like to ask the experts for some confirmation. Thanks

He might be thinking this because special commerical SKSs were produced specifically for the US market, by the Chinese. Since the US was the initial primary market for these rifles, some people up here might refer to them as 'US' SKSs. The SKS D is one of these.

This. Besides who would want to build an an expensive to machine, firearms evolutionary dead end when every arms manufacurer in the US is making thousands of their version of an AR15/M4 or a US 1911 pistol to meet demand? AK's are much easier to build in our garage shops and work much better with 20, 30, 40, 75, and 100 round detachable magazines.

I'll take the SKS over the 47 as I have made mine a real rifle again by extending the stock to a proper length. Made up a piece of wood to cover the missing 3-4 inchs that should have been originally on it. Also put a rubber butt on the end which finishs it off very nicely along with a bipod also. Now its easy to shoot for hundreds of yards like a normal gun.
