the point of the AR7 is that you can break it down and put all the parts inside the stock. Once you add a scope, you're SOL in the break-it-down department...
For your requirements i'd go with with 10/22 breakdown or the papoose.
I have several of them... For reasons unknown I am fond of these guns. Probably from all the ads in gun rags I read as a kid. The gun on its own is surprisingly accurate, but the sights do suck. You can easily install a cheap dot sight and it would be plenty accurate for raccoons. On another plus side I'd is very light -especially the newer models with the polymer outer barrel.
Have you thought about a norinco backpacker?
You want a light accurate enough and easy to carry semi-auto .22?
Take a hard look at the Browning Semi-Auto.
It'll still break down into two pieces with a scope on the cantilever base (it mounts to the barrel, so the relationship between scope and barrel does not change), although the scope will make the barrel assy a bit longer. The action is slim and light, ejection is downwards, so good for a lefty too, if that matters at all.
Used ones are not too expensive either.
Another nice takedown type, is the Marlin 39 lever action.
This all considering that a takedown is a priority.
I had an AR7. One of the few guns I ever sold. It was, in the grand scheme, a waste of my time and money. The price of an education, eh?
Cheers

I have considered the norinco but was a bit concerned of the weight and accuracy. What can you tell me about them?
