I am currently reloading 28 and 20ga shotshells. Can anyone recommend a good reloading bench that perhaps Canadian Tire or Home Depot sells. Thanks.

home depot sells great benches.

they come in the form of 2x10's and 4x4's.

thats what i built for all my benches in the garage. no problems with weight or movement at all.

just draw up what you want for size, make a materials list, buy it, and have fun building.

much more satisfaction that way, and quality beats any others hands down.

Costco has some nice HD benches too. They have a beauty, all SS with a butcher block top, lots of drawers and one hinged door. The hinged door comes off and you can mount a press for metalic loading there.

It is 6' long, and costs about $370

I just built one from Rona lumber, made it whatever size I needed to fit my space. lumber + pneumatic nail gun = fast easy reloading bench. the nice thing about lumber (2x4's and such) is that you can nail/screw other things to it, like hangers, shelves, etc.

10x10 legs and 4x4 top :) that's a real bench!

yeah, my bad - this thread ended Aug last year. no idea how i managed to dig it up from the dead...

sorry!

SandRoad has it..........:agree:

except that price is now very old...... I think it's over $500 now. But still a great deal, it's a very substantial table/bench/cabinet. Haven't seen them in stock for a while though.

If you are near the US, there is also Sam's Club. They have this one for $399, and is very similar to the Costco one, except the Costco bench has the door at the right end instead of the middle.

And lots of other types of benches that would make awesome reloading benches, like this one with a 1-3/4" butcher block top, for $199

Or this, for $189

I got something similar to the bottom picture at Home depot for 80.00. But I tend to use my 2x4 basics kit benches. they are a lot stronger.

What is "2x4 basics kit benches" ? I'm planning to start reloading soon and need solid compact bench.

Thanks !

I have seen the ones at Sam's Club several times (been eyeing them), there is no comparison to the Home Depot ones. These are VERY substantial, far heavier than the ones at Home Depot or Crappy Tire. The one in the picture, the bench top is 1-1/2" thick hardwood butcher block and the table weights about 120 lbs.

The middle picture of the 6' long bench only, that bench weighs 130 lbs.

The roller bench with drawers weighs 320 lbs.

It's unfortunate we can't get that quality, for those prices in Canada. But as I noted, if you are near the border, and a Sam's Club....

I posed the same question here about a month ago. Here is what I ended up with:

Built myself with $120 in lumber and $15 in other parts, and it's waaaaaaaaay more solid than any bench I've seen in a store. 2x4 frame on the botom, 2x6 frame on the top, 4x4 posts as legs, 3/4" plywood over both frames and a 2x10 shelf. The bench is 6'x3' and the frames have a stud every 2'. I secured the frames to the 4x4 legs with lag bolts.

I think I'll put a 1/4" smooth wood sheet of some kind on the bench top just to have a smoother work surface. Super duper solid and way cheaper than buying one.

I got a old desk off kijiji free works great..

Me too!

An old office desk from... who knows when. It's old and heavy as ****. With all the drawers removed my buddy and I could barely move it down my stairs to the basement. I'm not huge at 6'4" 200lbs, but he's a lot bigger dude. We joked that if it ever has to come out we're cutting it up and taking it out in pieces.

I think I paid 60$. I like the style it has =)

Easy way......

and at 1600lbs you can dismantle small aircraft on it...(My choice)

Hard way...

You may want to as a range friend of mine suggested to use a 4x4 rather than a 2x4 on the side where you will mount your press. This will give you solid wood to lag your press down on to (you'll need to). Or at least, add a cross member where you will mount your press so that you can effectively lag the center bolt.

Thanks to him I can share....
