I see one for sale at Wanstalls but the problem is....

1. It's pretty pricey
2. I have an Rem 870 Express and its quality made Norinco laugh
3. Can anyone check it out for me if they see one to find out if it's the police edition or metal trigger guard and removable mag extension? Fit and finish would be something great to report aswell.

To my knowledge and the description and picture wanstalls gives , its basically this shotgun here with a new paintjob (cerakote) , a new magazine extension and magpul furniture , as for the metal trigger guard its most likely plastic but i could be wrong and the magazine extension is removable.

You could build a better one for cheaper. Get an old Police 870 off the EE then throw the parts YOU want on there.

Its the cheapest 870 with some god awful furniture on it and a 100% mark up.

A little off topic, but there's an article on Police vs Express differences. Anybody know the difference between Police vs Vintage Wingmasters? Wingmasters have the better extractor, barrel ball detent style retaining device, and mag spring clamp. Do they have heavier duty carrier and sear springs than the Express?

Mechanically, they're pretty much the same except for the springs, which IMO are "overpowered" in the Police models, not so much for function but as a hedge against the kind of neglect that duty guns often recieve.

Other than the extra power Police magazine tube spring I otherwise prefer the normal spec springs throughout.

It’d be cool if Magpul makes the furniture in OD green like the rest of their stuff, but so far, it only comes in black, FDE and orange. I think Justin from CTC Supplies will be bringing this stuff in as well, just not a complete shotgun like Wanstalls is selling.

These aren't as common as you might think...or I'm missing something. I've been looking for a bone-stock, retired police 870 for a while now. No luck.

Yer paying for the finish, the stock, & foreend at double the price.

Just get the regular 870 tactical. Le Baron has them for a great price ($476.94)

Mounted the stuff on my HP9. The stock and pump handle are very high quality. I adjusted my length of pull with 2 spacers and the shotgun feels really good with my shooting position, making my follow up shots with slugs/buckshot very quick. Recoil management is great, the stock spreads it nicely on the shoulder. I shot around 200rounds of 7.5 target load with it in a day, and could shoot more if I had ammo. The grip is nice and low but at the same time doesnt put your wrist in an awkward position. However, if you are planning to use optics I would really suggest getting the cheek raiser, as the stock raiser is low but perfect for bead/ghost ring sights.

I recommend!

I was thinking the very same thing when I first saw this thread just didnt do the leg work lol good job, Wanstalls has always been fair with there pricing.

Even if you take out Wanstalls labour which I believe to more than fair, factor in the shipping on all that aftermarket coolaid if you could even find all of the parts at the same vendor. I think with Wanstalls $10 flat rate shipping your ahead of the game on a very nice shotgun out the box.

I love your build on the shorty, very nice job

Just bought a mint Wingmaster last week for $225. Sold the stock for $75 and the barrel for $100. Bought an unfired slug barrel for $80 (I prefer irons to ghost rings although I have both) and got one of the last wood police stock sets from Numerich for $75 shipped. Epps had Remington metal plus two extensions for $50 (I notice they are up in price now). So do the math. Receiver $50 Barrel $80 Stock $75 Extension $50. Thats $255 total. I ported the barrel at work this week and am going to teflon the whole works in the next week or so. Everybody oohs and aahs about the 870 p, yet there are wingmasters that are 40 even 50 yrs old and have had thousands of rounds thru them and are still chugging away. they just don't quit. Wingmasters come up on the EE almost every week, you just have to be quick. They are the best value you are going to get. You part out what you don't want and build it the way you want it, and the best thing is that the parts from a 50 yr old wingmaster fit the new ones and vice versa.
