I'm living in the sticks on an acreage West of Edm
I bought a brand new Ruger 10/22 (my first ever 22) and put it in a Marauder/Nomad stock. I can't get it to cycle more than 5 or 6 rounds without a stove pipe. Sometimes its one after another. I thought it might be a break in issue but I've put 300 rounds or so throught it with no improvement.

I didn't fire the rifle before I swapped stocks and I'm shooting cheaper ammo (American Eagle).

Do I need to put it back to stock to see if its a rifle/versus stock issue or just buy better ammo?
 
I'd try the ammo approach. 10/22's (like most S/A rimfires) can be fussy about ammo. Fail to feed issues can result from the use of different mags etc., but stovepiping after firing, not so much.

If you try several types of ammo and still have the same issue, you might need to take it apart again to ensure the bolt cycles all the way, the extractor is in good shape & free, etc.

The stock won't be causing this problem IMHO.

I wouldn't think the stock could effect the ejection but I'm new to the whole 22 scene.

Any recommendations on ammo?
 
You did not mention which magazine you used? Did you use a Ruger factory 10 round BX-1 magazine or the Promag AA922 that came with the kit? I had to replace the feed lip on the original one that came with the kit.

*EDIT* Just realized you only said FTE, thought you also had feeding issues, my bad.
