I just realized why my 7.62 upper all of a sudden start FTF. I have an extra power spring in it, LMT bolt, don't have a special firing pin (it's coming). But even with that setup I've had a great success (borat voice) with Russian surplus. Maybe, 1 out 20 -25 FTF. Well, with Romanian surplus it's like 10 out of 10 from each box of 20. So, I thought WTF FTF??? Checked the rifle - OK. Used PMC boxed ammo - 20 out of 20. Then I've looked closely at the primers.
In exactly 10 rounds from the box primers were are sitting too deep. Maybe, it's OK for and SKS or VZ, but my AR is no likey. Again, maybe the special pin will eliminate this problem, but just a heads up for all 7.62 converters.

the unfortunates side of shooting ammo designed for a rifle that was built with very loose tolerances, but that is what also made the AK so robust.

I would have it wasn't so damn overpriced. ;)

Yeah, they are expensive, no doubt. And the design has some "quirks" (putting it mildly) about it, as well.

1700 rounds of corrosive surplus through mine now, with 1 FTF from rounds binding in the mag. Every 1k I shoot knocks $200 off the price of the gun. It will pay off financially in the medium term and it's paid off right from the start in enjoyment and reliability.

I might will join the club one day

I wish a reliable AR in that caliber was commonly available. I'd still rather have one than my XCR.

This upper works 100% with PMC boxed and MFS ammo. Was working 95% with Russian ammo just with stronger hammer spring. I am pretty sure that enhanced pin will cure FTF issue.

For me, the whole point of this caliber is to shoot the cheap surplus ammo. If that doesn't work, I'd stay with .223.

I hope the new FP works for you. I'm certainly paying close attention to your results.

Any concerns about the longer FP causing slam-fires or OOB ignition?

Not if used only with milsurp. That's what others on US forums are saying. One guy has an absolutely gorgeous 7.5 inch with AR 47 lower (that takes an AK mags) and he runs it with full auto.... :xes I'll try to find the picture....
