Anybody who claims bear baiting is easy has obviously never done it! I don't own a quad so I haul my 45gal drum and bait a mile or so down a cutline on my back at 51 years of age! The older boars are as wary as an elk and won't come into a bait till after dark or circling downwind . Spending 12 hours in an uncomfortable tree stand in sleet and rain a caveman could do it.Sounds like you're superior to others like some fly fishermen that look down of other styles of fishing.If what you are doing is legal go for it ignore the critics...............Harold

I'm just going to ignore the haters & go ahead & enjoy my bear baiting/hunting. I find popcorn to be one of the best baits for bear. It is clean, smells nice, doesn't stink up the wifes car, lol, & you can carry in a lot of it easily. Pour a little molasses or bacon grease on it & your good to go. I found 2 hotair poppers at a local thrift shop for $3 each. I find that I can fill a large plastic tub in about 15 min with both of them running. Most of southern Ontario is private land. We dont have the luxury of prowling all over to find a bear. If all you have is 200 acres to hunt on, you bait to bring the bears to you.
that's how I get them..I was under the impression we all got our bears this way in BC..what's with this rifle crap ?...I find the best way is to call them in and drop on their back from an overhanging branch and break their neck..for more of a challenge you do this with your legs,with a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other..OK buddy you ran this train of the rail.
Its damn near impossible to stalk black bear over here in Ont (and eastern Canada) The bush is so thick you can't see 10 feet in front of your sights. Baiting is the only way to have a real shot at a bear.
And as its been said, baiting is a helluva lot of work. So why don't you keep your bullsht opinions to yerself. If you don't want to hunt that way thats fine but DO NOT belittle and put down other hunters for using a certain method.
How about you go out an wrestle then kill the thing with yer bear hands to make it a little more "fair and sporting" after all a lead slug travelling at a 1- 2 thou ft per second is a bit unfair right?

I shot a nice dry sow last season. 2 weeks of baiting steady and basically no results. I drove the 32 kms with a box of molasses taped over the heat vent on high about 45 min drive. Poured it out over my bait station and spent 3 hours huddled on a rock waiting watching a path to the bait. Saw a bear come in with about 20 min of light left checked it out thought it was a yearly cub it was alone I shot it. It dropped. I waited 10 minutes then walked the 80 yards over and tagged it then grabbed the leg to drag it out and couldn't move it. Lol I stepped back and looked at it again. Didn't look that big. Tried again couldn't budge it. Went and got the other 2 guys in camp it took 3 of us to get her in the box. I'm sure it was the molasses that brought her in. She dressed out 240lbs so figure 300lbs live weight I guess. And I thought it was a small bear. Most times they do shrink as you get closer. Baiting allows you to watch and observe the animal. Where I hunt there's 3 spots for a long shot. 1x 80 yard shot which I cleared a lane way thru 1x 100 yard shot over a dug out gravel pit and 1x 200 yard shot from a ridge top over looking a marshy meadow. The rest of the area 20-30 yards is about it most places. Baiting is a lot of work and puts a lot of money in the north where eco tourism doesn't. I love spot and stalk hunting but ontario bears baiting is the main method so for those against baiting and baiters please stay out of my province.

Pop corn kicks arse. I find that bears dont like fish or spolied meat really. If i was a bear i dont think i would like big stinking chunks of meat stewing in a 45 gallon drum either , but nice fresh clean popcorn, thats good. From the baiters perspective it is super light cheap and easy
I save all the fish guts from the winter's ice fishing then topped with expired pastries.Lag screwed and chained to a large spruce.I have used popcorn and have lots of pics of bears cleaning the drum.It's a hell of a lot lighter to carry that's for sure............Harold

No sport in shooting something that is in the middle of eating.......I see it as way too "American" and skill lacking.
Guess most folks don't want to actually hike and work their asses off for their kill.
Thanks for sharing your opinion, but in some areas, hunting over bait is the only way to do it unless you're brave enough to push thorough dense bush until you are 10 feet from a bear. Spot and stalk doesn't work epwhen you can't see that far.
I've used dog food, meat meal, restaurant grease, and beaver. Stinky is good. We have been too busy fishing to worry about bear season yet.
I have also tried the spray bombs, but they only seem to work on moderate wind days when you know there is a bear in the area.

Who says it isn't smiled upon out West? Almost everyone on Alberta Outdoorsmen baits black bears .Only problem is the grizzlies we don't have keep showing up and the Province then closes the area to baiting.........sound management at it's finest......Harold

This thread is about bear baiting. If you want to start your own thread on how you don't like bear baiting, fine. If you keep up the trolling in this thread you will receive an infraction for disruptive behavior. I notice by your past history that this type of infraction is not new to you...
