Bear baits getting smashed!

If you have a location, I know a few people who would be in to it , myself included.

Different terrain. Different methods.

So you wouldn't hunt an animal near its food source?

Baiting is more work than you arrogant and condescending people think.
But way to put down legal hunting methods. Now tell everyone than no one needs handguns or semi-automatic rifles.
Better yet, if you are in to working hard for your kills, use a knife or pointed stick. Anything else is too easy and for pussies.

I've never baited but don't frown on the practice.

Pointed stick? Knives?
Real men strip down and wrestle the bear with nothing but their own hands and teeth!

I hit a black at Liard Hotsprings last week with a softball sized rock that got to close twice ....Does that count? Harold........considering a spear?

Anyone of you guys do a honey burn while in your stand? Or only pre season or while baiting? If so how do you accomplish this? I wanted to do one while sitting on stand but was thinking it might do more bad than good as I would have to climb back down to turn the burner off when the honey was done.

I don't think burning anything on an established bait is necessary. I do hang up a dirty shirt near my bait to let the bears get used to my scent. I think they associate my scent with food anyway, because me being there doesn't seem to deter them at all. The sows with cubs can be very persistent & annoying to have on a bait. No real way to get rid of them :D. I have tried a slingshot, didn't work very well.

Slingshot eh? I could see how that may cause a confrontation. :)

They also make them little sterno military /pocket size stoves that take small cubes as fuel.A tin can with an inch of honey and bacon grease and you're good to go.........Harold

I worked at a hunting fishing resort and once had a trouble bear at the dump would help me unloaad the garbage right off the truck. When he started growling I took a sling shot thinking it was better then a stick to hit him on the ass. He was staren me down and smacking his paw on the ground so I thought ill whack him on the head with a marble. The marble fell short and I hit him on the snout. He whimpered like a ##### and ran. I felt so bad but when he saw me or that truck he left the pit and waited at the far side until the truck left. 1 marble cured his attitude

Your right, this will work, but just be careful when heating bacon grease! I almost set the forest on fire once by heating a tin of bacon grease & it caught on fire! It's amazing how big a fire a small can of grease can make :D.

Here's a couple more pictures to enjoy.

I suspended beaver carcasses 8+ ft up between trees but the bears tore them down. Some guys build a beaver cage and chain it to a tree out of re-bar so he can't steal it.........Harold

bait

for you guys that don't know if you check at feed stores you can buy feed grade mollases for 70 cents a kilo ..works out to $50 for 20 gal you supply your own container ..popcorn and molases even makes me hungry.lol

I used the sticks a couple of years ago, had a bear hitting the bait regularly but not when I was there. Lit a stick and it came in about an hour later and rolled around on the stick, my opinion is that it can't hurt, it's good to mix things up and make them curious.
