Hey all,

New to the black rifles, long time lurker. Finally had enough drooling over black rifles and decided that i'm gonna take the plunge by selling a few of my safe queens.

Due to budgetary constraints i've decided on the Norc M4. I know it's not the best quality AR out there but it does the job and fits my budget.

Looking for any suggestions so I don't get hosed on my upcoming purchase.

Or maybe talk me out of it

well try and get one used that you know will work. the problem seems to be when people get new ones. you just dont know. i bought both my norcs used and both work 100%

Norcs ain't bad, actually.... I hear they run really well, especially when a little dirty, due to the generous tolerances they have. That being said, there are a few stories where people find it hard to customize due to some of their parts slightly out of spec. However, some people don't have any issues... So it's a little bit of a gamble, but no matter what it'll likely run no problems.

Ive had mine for over a year brand new and I haven't had a single problem with it. The only down fall was trying to fit the quad rail I added to it, took a bit of grinding bit I bought a used one for 40 bucks so I wasn't to concerned. Besides that Its a great choice. I love mine.

OP, you don't say if you are looking at the 10.5" or 14.5" model? The 10.5's seem to be fussier and have more issues, while the 14.5's have been pretty solid from what I have seen.

The only people you actually see talking #### about the norc's are the fools that wasted 3k on their boutique match grade AR's (and let's be honest, those are way too fussy and high maintenance to work in the field anyway) The Norc;s are actually pretty reliable, and they are also designed for the 5.56 military load not specifically designed for the wussier .223 , I think everybody forgets that the Norinco CQ/M4 was originally designed for sale to LE/Miltary.

I bought a 14.5 inch Norc and took it out for the first time a few weeks ago. I put 400 rounds through it in about 2 hours without a single stoppage.

I actually found an awesome quad-rail hand guard that fits perfectly without ANY modification to the part or the weapon and took less than 3 minutes to install.

The 2 best additions to the rifle were the Spikes tungsten powder buffer and an EOTech XPS2 sight, among other mods.

I was very impressed (and surprised) at the performance from this weapon.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Forgot to add that i'd go with the 14.5".

Not familiar with upgraded blacks at all so i'd stick with buying a few extra mags and replacing the rail with some sort of sight.

Going used, can't seem to find any new ones anyways. What's a reasonable price for a non-upgraded m4?

I'm loving my 14.5" Norc M4, got about 500+ rounds thru it now with exactly zero issues. Only problem I had I was getting my quad rail to go on, had to file down some tabs at the front of the rail for it to fit. No big deal though. For $675 it's a bargain, finish isn't the greatest but it isn't terrible either, it's a military rifle after all. It functions well and is accurate enough, that's what counts the most.

Absolutely - I've never heard (or had) any issues with the 14.5" guns, most of the 10.5's are OK but there are still some out their that need some tweaks. Since the 14.5 is M4 length anyway, you're not really giving up anything. The nearset competitor is still several hundred dollars more. Put either a Bushnell red dot, or a Millett DMS on it and all you need to do is spend the rest of everything you'll ever earn on ammo to keep a smile on your face.

I've had my Norinco CQ in the 14.5" configuartion for about a year now and am very happy with it. It has exceeded my expections in performance and reliability. It is definitely one of the best buy's you can get in Canada for a restricted rifle if not the best.

I have had two Norcs in varying configurations before.

Eventually went with Spikes and have three of them.

That being said, Im considering another 14.5 Norc in the near future.

They are great range and beater guns, but they also run well in competitions like Service Rifle and CQB matches.

You can't go wrong.

I want one to try out my hand at Krylon gun camoflage.
