I have my PAL and hunting license and am planning on hunting small game with both my .22 and 12 gauge.

My friend does not have his PAL, but will have his hunting license.

Can I bring both my firearms out while I'm hunting with my friend?
Is he allowed to fire any of them with my supervision?

Thanks!

Provincial hunting regulations aren't the same as federal firearm regulations, and I don't know Ontario's hunting regulations but I guess if they gave him a hunting license he can hunt. Although he doesn't have a firerarms license, the regulations do allow him to carry and shoot a firearm under supervision of someone who does have a firearms license. Supervision isn't exactly defined, but I suggest that you as his supervisor should be not more than a few paces from him when he is carrying a gun and not more than one pace away when he is firing it.

And when he is firing, don't you be. You should be paying attention to what he is shooting at, the potential danger area behind and beyond his target, and what he is doing with the gun. That should keep both of you out of trouble. Happy hunting.

If he doesn't have a PAL then both of you cannot shoot with two firearms, you have to share one. Secondly in Ontario he should have his H1 hunting outdoors card which allows him to hunt using firearms which means he would have completed his firearms safety course.

With no PAL, I would assume he has his H2 card to allow bow-hunting.

Could I bring one of my firearms, and have the other encased in a rifle/shotgun sock? And just switch it up? i.e. only 1 firearm will be fired at any given time and "shared" between hunters

If you were stopped by a C.O. I don't think he would beleive you. Last time I was checked out he asked for my PAL and registration certificate ( it was back in the day)

He does not need PAL to get H1, only complete the non-restricted firearms safety course. Example is someone wanting to hunt with a air rifle <500 fps which does not require PAL.

I would not take the risk. Just give him the rifle or shotgun and have him shoot or simply wait 4 weeks for him to get his PAL since he already has completed his non-restricted firearms safety course.
