So, I guess I get to visit this forum now too. I just picked up a Remington 700 XCR Tactical Long Range in .223. I'd been looking for a while and had considered the VLS, VLSS, VS VF, SPS Tactical and have been watching the used in EE. I saw this one today for a pretty good price, so went for it :)

I also picked up a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 scope. So now I need some help with rings and mounting. Any recommended rings? Something middle of the road I suppose, don't need the best, but don't want to cheap out either.

The thing with rings is you can get the best and it's still not that exspensive! In my humble opinion the way you mount your glass is one of the fundamental foundations of your your whole set up, it's worth the money in longevity alone! Plus their small enough to ship cheap! I'm usually an advocate for Canadian company support but I'd look at midway USA, brownells, or even amazon for reduced prices on top notch product! Keep us posted on what you go for!

The Burris Signature series Zee rings are excellent and do the job as good or better than rings costing a lot more. They have ploymer inserts between the ring and scope that allow you to preset some cant into your set up for long range, and keep the scope from suffering from ring marks.

Looks like a nice set up you have there, good luck with it!

I am very interested to read the responses here. I am building a 700 SPS Tac AAC SD, putting Elite 6500 glass on top as well.

Originally, I was going with a scope with a 1" tube. I purchased Weaver Tactical 4 hole skeleton rings. Some funds were freed up, and I was able to purchase a better scope with a 30mm tube, which got me looking into rings again.

I am struggling with the wide range of prices. Anywhere from $20 up to $250. I can read all the testimonials of why space age technology makes a set of rings worth the money, but are people really having issues with the less expensive rings out there. I understand cheap vs less expensive, and I want to avoid cheap...

I like Burris Tactical. Solid rings, not too expensive and they come in various heights to suit your needs. Will you bee needing a 20 MOA rail?

What I haven't seen mention here is a suggestions to have your rings lapped, which ever ones you decide. If your not using all of the contact area of the ring this could be problematic.

I like my Burris XTR rings.

I got a couple sets of weaver tactical rings, and they seam to do a great job. Have them on a 7mm and a 30-06 so they handle some recoil with 30mm scopes. Decent price, couple differnt heights and most stores carry them

Man ... be patient if your on a budget, and wait for something high end to come up for sale on the exchange forums. if you cant wait and just need something for the range right now buy some cheap Leupolds or Tallys. Dont forget Tallys have to be lapped if you just slap them on, they may or may not dent your scope. Some thing like Leupold or Night Force thats not going to happen. Dont be afraid of Tallys from my post. I only run Tally light weights and Night Force light weights with a rail. Im pretty sure ATRS rings and rail are good. Along with leupold MK4 rings and rail. Try and find them used on the exchange. you will be happier and better off, rather than fking around with junk
