What did the slings look like for the No 5 Carbine?. Mine came with a webbing sling with leather straps and buckles at each end to attatch the sling to the rifle

Like this, hope I don't have them on bassackwards.

My No.5 came with a sling when I bought it and I'm sure it is shorter than the sling I have on my No.4, but the same style.

They are the same as the No4 slings but they should be green in color, rather than khaki.

Whether this was a reality in the field or not is another question but the green slings are considered to be the proper color.

One of my #5s came with a blue (Royal Air Force) sling.

Was on there a long time before I got it.

And I got it quite a while ago.

Seems correct to me, as many of these were issued to the Air Force.

Your sling may very well be correct for your rifle but in all of the thousands of No4s and No5s I helped to unpack, none of them ever came with an attached sling. Unless you bought that rifle right off the military, when it was released, someone else added the sling.

Not that he/she put on the wrong one, just that it never reached the commercial market that way after disposal.

They are the same as the #4 slings but were green. The green was an anti-rot chemical that was added so the the slings would last in the jungle climate. There would also be nothing wrong with using a regular khaki sling.
