Was out looking to get some bullets, powder, brass etc for my various firearms this weekend. Could not find much as the dealers shelves were picked clean. Talking to the different shops one common theme emerged- NOTHING is coming up from the USA- firearms, ammo, components etc... anything to do with firearms. The US people are buying up everything produced right now.
One dealer said they have had a $70,000 order backordered since May! Has to do with the US election coming up. They said they were told that if the new Republican (Morman) got in he said he will BAN ALL EXPORTING of FIREARMS and anything to do with killing (ammo, components etc) from the USA. Apparently killing is against his religion...
Apparently they want a different coloured president in power- racism is alive and well in the south.
Also if it happens everything will have to come from Europe- guns, ammo etc. That will drive the prices up, yikes!

What have you heard?

Not much to do with Romney getting elected. Mostly due to the economy worsening, the fear that Obama may get re elected (national civil unrest) and further his gun control and false rumors that uber liberal Soros is buying up all US gun manufacturing.

Many federal agencies and the military are replenishing their stocks after the war and due to a perceived possible national civil unrest if Obama is re elected I suspect.

The US ammo market was already running at maximum capacity before the election season started. Yours is the first rumour I've heard about Romney being an anti, but the reason why sales have picked up is that most buyers are afraid Obama will restrict firearms and ammo in the US.

The ammo manufacturers weren't going to build new factories just to make extra capacity for a 6 month shortage over election season, so we're stuck with a shortage.

When aren't Americans in fear and not stockpiling??
I believe the US shooting industry itself is excellent at driving fear into the consumer which stirs up a big demand and then they jack up prices.
I remember back in the last election primers were going off the shelves, I recall going to Yorkton Homehardware who jacked up their prices by 20% was saying that soon there would be no primers in Canada and I should buy a few hundred dollars worth. It been 4 years and I still get primers. Sometimes we are are own worst enemies.

Sorry, should of said everyone in the US, i was in Utah 2 weeks ago and every gun store around Colorado ran out out of guns and ammo after the shootings.

Another case of "Wag the dog"!

Romney won't ban anything, especially since the NRA has spent over $50 Million towards this campaign, mostly to the republican party. Add in the several million $$ donated by arms makers directly, and it pretty much steers him from gun control.

I know a fellow whom studies this stuff and he indicated that after the last spate of shootings there was a bit of a spike, particularly in handguns, the problem is that the supply is slow to catch up - get this - he showed me some stats and he actually had some second or third cousin whom works for a major ammo company who got his pink slip.

It seems the problems we are seeing are more un-###y (sorry conspiratatists and anti-gun control) and more so with the economy itself. With the Iraq/Afghan war slowing down, and nothing in the future, powder, bullet, firearms companies slowed down production - yup including layoffs.

We are second fiddle and they cannot keep up with the sudden demand, without having to go into a full production again (only to slow down again). Kinda reminds me of oil. Some powders, bullets and firearms can be ordered and easily obtained, others, well, are being slowly manufactured and shipped after local demands are satisfied.

My $0.02...take it for what it's worth, or not.

John Moses Browning was a Mormon.

Mitt Romney is the pro-gun guy, Obama is the anti-gun guy. American's are going through a repeat of 2008 when it looked like Obama was a shoe-in to win. Panic buying and lots of hoarding. We're seeing the same thing now, plus adding fuel to the fire is the rash of mass shootings.

People are afraid that if Obama is re-elected to his second and last term as president, he will no longer have to fear the wrath of the NRA and gun advocates and will proceed to impose another assault weapons ban and bring in Canadian style gun control measures because he will be untouchable.

the only mormons I know have a #### ton of guns LOL

"Hey Paul, can you help so and so move on saturday? they are from our church and need help.

Me: Yea sure!"

Sure enough, once the couches and heavy furniture are out the moving truck, here comes a 2 hour work load of bringing in gun cases and reloading supplies LOL
