Broken Trigger Pins

Hey Guys, so I was out on the range today shooting my AR, and I noticed that one of my trigger pins started walking on me with every shot. At first I didn't really think much of it but then I realized that only 1 end would walk while the other side didn't move.

Guessing that the trigger pin (ok it was really the pin for the hammer)... broke I stopped shooting (obviously) packed up and went home. Upon inspection I had indeed broke the pin that held the hammer in place.

Just out of curiosity, is this common after around 2000+ rounds? Or is there something else going? So far there aren't really any signs of wear or stress else where. Or were they just cheap pins?

Thanks

It was a custom AR, upper was from Questar's special and the lower was assembled out of DPMS LPK and a Spike's Reciever.

Ammo, is the a mix of S&B 5.56 and Remington UMC .223 both 55gr

Not common but I have seen it with afew very well used guns "over 50,000 rds"

Sounds like the pins were a bad lot

check to make sure holes were not damaged and replace the pin.

Check for doubling.

Are you near Ottawa?

What no one jumps to the defense of the 416?

When trigger components or the lower is worn you can get a shot when you squeeze the trigger and one when you release it. The lower locates the trigger components and controls sear engagement. If it happens you strip and clean the lower. Does it again bin the lower parts check/ bin the lower. Last two triggers I wore out went 60K cycles total and 14K live (Stag) and 40K and 20K (Colt). Both failed due to worn sears.

This doesn't seem to be happening, after replacing the broken pin, the components seem to be functioning as expected. I've inspected the components with another trigger group, and there doesn't seem to be any excessive signs of wear.

However, I would expect things to fail after 20k or somewhere around there... however only after 2k+ rounds? Seems a little premature. I inspected the other parts and there doesn't seem to be any signs of damage, just a little wear on the pin holes on the lower receiver.

Any clues? or could it be just a bad batch of pins?

it is tiny little pin, manufacturer buys them by the thousands if not by weight, defective ones do and will end up in the mix, premature failure is all part of life. no sense worry about it. :)

That's cool, guess it happens... no damage seems to be present
