Ontario - Antlerless draw results, WTF

Are whitetails rare or in short supply in Ontario?
For the most part, no. However, issuing buck only tags, and having us apply to the draw for a doe tag has been the method of choice for population control. For that, it works well. However, it does nothing for the trophy hunting set.

Both my wife and I got doe tags this year for area 56.

Got my doe tag in the mail the other day. From what I have heard from others at our camp, we have a total of 8. WMU 49 has been good to us this year.

I was successful, but I am confused as hell, as to how these new licences and tags system is working.

My little yellow card says right on it "this is not a license"!! WTF?

So where is my license, and tag?

This is absolutely retarded!

Now instead of a outdoors card, I have to carry my outdoors card, a yellow slip for my deer license, a deer tag, then my small game yellow slip, and also my fishing yellow slip!

This is so f#*king retarded I can't even begin to understand what the idiots in charge of all this were thinking!

Dumbest system ever, isn't it? I was pretty pissed about it.

I didn't read through this whole thread, so i may have missed it.. Did any of you take advantage of the "additional antlerless deer seal"? I didn't bother putting in for the draw, cuz I figured they'd offer the additional seal again this year.. All you gotta do is wait for the system to open up and you buy them before anyone else does. 69B had a total of 100 first come, first served. Legal for use in any open season. My buddy and I each got one.

no in zone 56

This yellow sticker isn't clear to a novice. While it is bilingual it states " Deer Licence" and "Deer seal" It does not tell me male or female or for antlered deer only. Nor does it have any or all zones indicated.

This is lousy - you could make a mistake thinking I have a deer licence/seal.

Really how hard would it be to have "Antlered Deer Only in all zones" on this.

:(

You should ask CNADNSL8-5. I am positive he will have an answer for you.

"Dear licence" - (top half) allows you to hunt a deer
"Dear seal" - (bottom half) is the seal you attach to the animal

They both are there because it is 2 parts. It is all explained on the front and back of the sticker.

If you are going to the trouble of buying a deer licence, you should have taken a hunter education course and read the hunting regs:

Any resident of Ontario who has a valid hunting version
Outdoors Card may apply to the draw for an antlerless
deer validation tag. Hunters who receive a validation tag in
the draw are permitted to harvest their choice of EITHER
an antlerless deer in the WMU specified on the tag OR an
antlered deer anywhere in the province during the open
season – with the exception of during a controlled hunt.
See page 69 for information on hunting during a
controlled deer hunt season.

Licensed hunters who do not apply to the antlerless draw,
or who are not successful in the draw for an antlerless deer
validation tag, may harvest an antlered deer only, anywhere
in the province during the open season, with the exception
of during a controlled hunt or where a hunter has an
additional deer seal validated for an antlerless deer
.

Hunters who wish to apply to the antlerless deer draw may
use one of three methods. For your convenience, you may
purchase your resident’s deer licence tag and apply to the
antlerless deer draw in one toll-free call to 1-800-288-1155
between March 1 and July 3. This line is available 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. You may also purchase a deer licence
from a licence issuer, online at ontario.ca/outdoorscard or at
select ServiceOntario centres and submit an application
for the draw online at ontario.ca/outdoorscard or at a
ServiceOntario centre.

Your chance of being drawn for an antlerless deer validation
tag is the same whether you apply by telephone, online
or at a ServiceOntario centre. Choose one method only
– you will be disqualified if more than one application is
submitted in your name.

The deadline for completing applications by telephone
and online is 11:59 p.m. (ET) on July 3, 2012.

The deadline for applications to be received at a
ServiceOntario centre is 5:00 p.m. on July 3, 2012.

Whether a hunter applies by telephone, online or at a
ServiceOntario centre, the responsibility for entering a valid
application rests with that hunter. If you have any questions
regarding your application or the application process,
more information is available from the Natural Resources
Information Centre at 1-800-667-1940.

What mistake? You do have a deer licences/seal.

How hard is it to read the regs?

Sure I have read the regs buts what would be wrong with a small "Antlered deer in all zones" statement.

Cheers

Not "all zones" are allowed because of controlled hunt areas. Controlled hunt draws are mostly antlerless, but some are antlered only.

Call/email MNR and ask. Maybe they will change it in the future. I did not like how the online antlerless draw entry was set up so I politely let them know.

If you cannot figure out the deer season and what tag you have received how do function in a day to day work place!
