Looking for a hunting rifle in 308 semi auto assault style, would like a well made rifle good for 600 yards that I can place a good scope on.
What are your ideas? Thanks for your input

Not to put to sharp of point on this, but we (as civillians)do not use assault rifles in Canada. We may use 308 precision rifles or possibly semi-automatic rifles. I would think about modifying the post to read something less..... hostile? Just a thought, as a new guy on the forum, a post like this somethimes ends up with thinking.....:feedTroll:

I was in the same boat as you. I wanted the RFB but my pockets don't run that deep.

Here's what I did:

-I picked up a used but fairly new Remington 750 Carbine on the EE (all black).
-I bought and installed a KNOXX recoil reducing butt stock.
-I mounted a single point harness to it.
-I threw on a militaryesque looking red dot scope.

When I was done, I ended up with a rough and tough faux military hunting rifle for less than $800

I don't need anything for 600 yard shots as I hunt in the thick stuff, so the 18 inch carbine barrel and red dot worked great for me.

The knoxx stock is just awesome. Perhaps you're already familiar, but if not, I can confirm that they work as advertised. They say "reduces recoil 80-95 percent". BS I thought... but they're right. It's like shooting the world's loudest .22 now. Took a moose at 200 yards with it last fall.

I don't have any pics on this computer to show you unfortunately. Here's the stock though:

Cheers, and happy hunting.
