Just bought a whole bunch of these Ol Soviet pouches our local shop had in a basket, $5 bucks each. Normally in the city they are $3.50 but once you factor in the gas, $5 bucks fine.

Plan to put 3 on each side of my leg with 2 on my belt so that's 4 pouches per side from the waist down, when I go out to shoot my SKS's, SVT-40, or Mosin Nagants I like to have X rounds to last a good day an when I'm done I clean up an go home. My shooting setup is like this.

1. Walk across my land to my designated shooting area me & my neighbors have come to an understanding on

2. The rifle & Shooting mat/carpet on my back/shoulder

3. My lil Plano shooting box on my right hand

4. Drinks, snacks & music box on my left

So not much room to bring my ammo with me, until I came up with this idea, I dislike having anything on my chest like your standard "tactical vests", even overalls cut in an chaff my shoulders because of my unique body stature, nothing fits me unless I custom make it to. I'm 6'6" so I have plenty of upper leg to utilize. Figure these would be comfortable an kinda nostalgic looking as well. Picked up some nice new brown Carheart duck pants/jeans an rummaging through all my tool belt clasp & buckles to attach them to the pants.

Figure attaching them all together, an around the upper thigh, then attaching it all to a waist belt, that should provide total weight distribution. Gotten pretty good at this sort of thing when making my own tool belt setups.

You realize that your pants will be VERY heavy when you get done. Load up your 8 pouches of ammo and lift them up. Now imagine that on your thighs, and imagine walking around with that on your legs.

Might I suggest a small duffle of some form, or a back pack. I use a re-purposed Plano soft sided tackle bag. Heck, you could even attach your pouches to a pack.

O no, I carried the total amount of ammo to get a feel for it, I've carried more while doing fencing, trust me you should see how much fence staples I lug around with me while doing 1 mile of fencing.

Each pouch can hold 4 clips max, an that's 40 rounds per pouch, each pouch weighs about 2lbs so that's 12 to 16 pounds. Not even close to anything heavy, this is why I went with Carheart pants, they are a very thick material an "stiff". A nice snug comfy Neoprene work belt will keep everything from jumbling around an chaffing me

Setup should hold all that I would care to shoot in a single day (7.62x39mm)

40 x 6 pouches = 240 R
or
40 x 8 pouches = 320 R

7.62X39
Steel Case 122gr FMJ
Rounds per pound:27.59
Weight per 100 rounds(lbs):3.63

The final reason for doing this I forgot to mention is that I also have long lanky arms, so grabbing ammo from leg pouches is perfect because my hands are right there already.

How about attaching everything to a belt/suspenders combo so all the weight is distributed closer to your center of gravity and therefore easier to carry? I am also interested to see how the end result will look like :) I do not have enough time for my own crackpot schemes anymore :(
