1911 sights

So I just took out my new para ordanace GI 1911 to the range and it is shooting low and left. I can see how to adjust the left and right (I'm guessing you have to tap the sight with a wood dowel or somthing) however, how do I correct up and down? Put 150rnds through it today, and it functioned flawless... If I can get it to shoot straight that would be even better! Thanks for the help.
 
Get out and give it another go, sometimes it take a couple of times to get used to the gun and how it shoots! If your new to handgun shooting, it is very different from handguns to rifles
 
If you a new to shooting .45ACP get someone that has lots of experience ( ie: a good shot) to try your gun to see if it is the gun or the shooter..then get some tips on how to shoot from them. When I started with .45 I couldn't even hit the target until I got some help from an experienced shooter.
 
I should mention its a three dot system... But I was lining it up like a rifle... With the front post centered and even with the back notch, with the target point just at the top of the notch/post. Thinking back I don't even rememember seeing the three dots... By the end of my range time the top right corner of the target would yeild semi center hits. Although I do agree I need more time on this particular piece of hardware.

P.s. It's my first .45acp
 
I'm an experienced shooter...but not of handguns in harder kicking calibers, and I found the first several times shooting .45 out of 1911's that I was "anticipating" and "pushing", which caused half my group to print a couple of inches low, while half was "bang on". I believe I need more wrist strength and some experience to keep from doing this flinch.

This MIGHT (or might not) be what you are encountering...which is why letting a really experienced handgun shooter try it out is important before you go modifying it.
 
If the problem is anticipating recoil get a friend to load your mags with one or two snap caps along with the live ammo. The first time you get a CLICK you will instantly know if you had a flinch. Did it for a buddy new to handguns and he almost stumbled forward he was anticipating or pushing so bad it was freakin funny!

Could be flinch or "anticipating the recoil". Have you ever dry-fired?

If you can keep the sights on target while dry-firing, you can probably hit the target consistently, as in shoot small groups.

Next step is to have someone at the range load single rounds or load empty magazines into your pistol, without you looking. If you flinch, it will be obvious when you squeeze the trigger with an empty chamber.:D
