what are the CIL No. 4B primers for?

today at a local gunshow i picked up a box (500) CIL No. 4B shotshell primers without battery cups, it says its for any brand and any gauge of shotshell. they do not have battery cups on them so they look just like a rifle/pistol primer just bigger and with a anvil that sticks out a little bit at the bottom.
but how would i load them?

Welcome to the 50's, back then you would recycle the battery cup.
For loading your press would come with thin primer punch and smaller hole washer type thing that would fit in deprime station but mostly guys used hand tools.
If I remember correctly you would insert a paper disk before priming to keep powder from filling the primer.

wow cool. thanks for the info, i was thinking maybe they were for solid brass shotshells or somthing like that. do you hapen to know waht the value might be on these?

I am using a box of those (with battery cups) right now in my sidelock bp rifle. I decided to try one of the shotshell primer adapters and with these primers it works great.

209s on the other hand, don't always fire on the first strike and get stuck in the adaptor's cup.

thank guys. and if anyone know what these might also be worth that would be awsome too. i cant seem to find any of these on the internet to even get a idea, and ofcorse i would like to know the price also.

I used to load 12g with the Lee tool. It knocked out the primer, leaving the cup in place. I still have some of the primers like yours.

I bet they are worth at least 2 cents each....
