Buying unregistered restricteds

It's very easy with a cell phone. I could routinely record all of my calls if I wanted to, without any issues.

Out of curiosity, someone with a prohib license could not have taken possession of it?

I don't think so. It would have had to have been registered already, I think. Rock and Wendy want them all.

Now, I know this has been dealt with elsewhere, but, since it is from the WWI era, I'm wondering about whether or not it could have been kept as an heirloom for a direct descendant...

Do you think turning them in helped public safety? And why be paranoid. You should have shut up and taken the damn guns and not told anyone. Now your just adding the numbers of "guns taken off the streets"

I was paranoid because I value my firearms license and did not want to be in possesion of a firearm for which I was not legally entitled.
Having it my possesion, it posed no public threat but I had no other legal recourse that I know of.
The Military Museum did reach me today and we together are going to try and cancel the destruction and get it transfered to him. It was my understanding that if it was not registered before it coould not be resgistered now as there are no new prohibs. The museum apparently can transport them legally. I'm not sure if it has to made a DEWAT but I don't care as long as we get it inot his hands, I will feel much better. Rant all you want but I'm going to follow the laws of the land. It doesn't mean I liked doing it.

I understand the law is unfortunate, and like you I also value my license more than owning a prohib. However, why did you not decide to have it deactivated?

It hurts me also to see a gun de-activated, but it's better than being totally melted down. At least someone who collects deacts could still enjoy looking at this historical piece.

The fact that barrel length affects many classic WWII bring back pistols such as the Luger is one of the saddest parts of owning firearms in Canada. Why they couldn't have made an exception for standard barrel length Lugers is just a complete tragedy.

As a non-12.6 owner I know my WWII sidearm collection will never truly be completed in this country, despite the fact owning a pre-1946 standard barrel length Luger would present no larger a threat on a public safety. A very sad way to treat our veterans artifacts.

My understanding and someone can correct me if I'm wrong is that I would not get an ATT to transfer a non registered firearm to a gunsmith that could DEWAT it for me. 2nd, I couldn't regiester a new prohib and there for could never get an ATT to tranfer to someone who could DEWAT it for me. No one could legitably accept a non registed Prohib to DEWAT it for me as they would then be break the law. Clasic Catch 22. Can't tranfer to make it legal. Not legal so could never transfer.
The Miltary Museum inBrantford did get a hold of me Friday and they are the exception to the rule. We will both call the firearms officer on Monday to see if we can have the destruction order cancelled so that it can be transfered to the museum. One can only hope.

"So the guns just vansihed basicly.. Were they went or if they turned up I have no idea.."

Really? You really have no idea where guns go, when they get handed over to a cop? You have way too much faith in the integrity of the constabulary. They go to the same place a bag of weed, or a case of beer goes, when no charges are laid.

If you have e name of the officer who picked it up call him, call the detachment they will have it stored somewhere and will likely destroy it with the next batch set for destruction which could be later today or weeks from. Ow. Talk to the guys you dealt with and today if possible. They will likely be real helpful.

I have the firearm officers name who I will contact on Monday morning when he is back in his office. I only hope he is cooperative.
