8.5 inch Grizzly Shotgun sights??? Suggestions

So I just received my brand new Grizzly 8.5 shotgun with bead sight. 5 Slugs later at the range and its shooting way high and right. At 20 yards it's got a be 7-8 inches high and right about 2 o'clock from point of aim. I know the barrels short, but come on.

Clearly the bead is not remotely indexed properly so I need a simple yet effective solution. This is a shotgun I want to hit something 20 yards or closer very time within 3-4 inches using slugs.

Question 1: Is the bead sight on the Grizzly shotguns screwed in or epoxied on?

Question 2: What about Ghost ring sights? To short a barrel?

Any suggestions would be great.

ya still high and right, obviously the closer one gets the closer the POI, but I'm looking for something which will be reliable out to 20 yards. If its hitting what I want at 20, then I should be good right up to the tips of my boots.

I had an 870 with a 12.5 inch barrel bead sight which would be bang on out to 25 yards. I'm hoping to dial this in a bit. This is a close encounters back country shotgun.

I've had a similar problem with the 8.5 Grizzly shooting high and to the left, but recently it occurred to me that it might be a problem with closing my dominant left eye while shooting... I'm left-handed but shoot right-handed. I haven't had a chance to get back to the range yet to try out this theory, but it sounds plausible. You can find out which is your dominant eye by holding a finger in front of an object and then closing each eye in turn; if your finger remains in front of the object with one eye closed and doesn't appear to move, the open eye is dominant. Just a thought.

Good thought, but definitely not my issue. When I level the shotgun and look down the barrel I can see the bead is off set ever so slightly. I'm thinking of a fiber optic mounted front sight, and if that doesn't work out then moving to a full ghost ring set up which would be more money. Just trying to find a Canadian distributor of XS sights.

On my outlaw I put on a set of turkey sights. A red front & 2 green at the back. It keeps my head down & shots on target. Not a triditional look for a coach gun but it worked for me. Not sure of the brand but maybe was Tru-Glow.

Don't bother sending it back....they're all like that.
Get what you pay for in a nutshell.

They simply slap on a tiny bead and call it a day.

The bead is too small but the biggest problem is the height. These short barrels require a pedestal or other method of getting the bead up higher to shoot to POA.
You'll need to address the issue sooner than later anyway as the bead is poorly affixed and will dissapear after some shooting.

Cheap and easy route is to solder/braze on a small ramp/base/piece of steel etc and then you'll have plenty of meat to drill tap a nice big hole and mount whatever bead or other device you want that will stay put and shoot to POA.

As with anything $$ will fix the problem. Up to you how much $$ you spend and what you end up with.

At least you shot your gun and realize the problem. A lot of people will simply pack the gun around and when they shoot it will realize it shoots waaayyy high and is near useless if its not contact distance.
If ya bought it to protect your place in the food chain that'll be a nice surprise!! lol
 
I put one of these on my 14". It's tall enough for a proper sight picture and is pretty much bang on out to 25m. If windage is a problem, it can be rotated to compensate when you snap it on.

You could mount a small red dot on the rail.
My next order from Brownells is going to include some XS front banded sights like this for my short barreled Chinese guns.....

Does anybody know what the thread measurements on the 8.5" bead sight are? I like the XS Big Dot sight [I'd probably order from Brownell's] but I'd be okay with a less expensive bead solution. My gun seems to aim okay with its current front bead, but I wouldn't mind something better...

I have some 1/4 in or less not quite sure silver and gold skulls at home,I'm going to drill a hole in the bottom of the skull maching the bead dry fit and see where it hits and if good glue it into place.Fashionable and the right size I think

Check out slim123's (posted in the other 8.5 thread that is current) 8.5er...looks like he got the XS banded sight on their somehow a bit further back then I was thinking....

Hmmm weird, i get the same thing with my 12.5 with slugs, high and right. didnt have to the tools to adjust at the range so ill try again this weekend. The front sight appears to be straight as an arrow so i think its probably just a rear sight adjustment thing

Are you shooting a Chinese gun or a Chinese barrel on a Remington?
