who stocks S&W 625 revolvers in Canada?

Hi folks - just looking for some direction - does anyone know who stocks S&W 625 revolvers in Canada?

I doubt if anybody _stocks_ S&W 625s in Canada. A S&W _dealer_ might be able to order you one, but you better be prepared to wait, and to pay top dollar. Either that or get lucky and find one that hasn't been snapped up in an instant.

I don't know why there aren't more .45ACP revolvers made. Seems like there'd be a heck of a market for them. If I didn't have a couple already, I'd want one myself...

S&W ain't stupid. Some guns just don't sell well enough to warrant dedicated lines. However, they sell in predictable numbers.

S&W make many of thier lines in batches. They build what they think the market wants. The distributors often have a list of dealers who've been hounding them for a model, and they order based on percieved demand. Stocking dealers tend to get first crack at new released.

The new releases fly fast enough to satisfy the distributors distain for dead stock, and S&W rarely have to sit on product in the warehouse....

S&W schedule production and release of product in much the same way that Walt Disney used to schedule the re-release of classic movies.

i picked mine up out of the show room at Shooter's Choice in Kitchener. I have only seen one other come thru since then, but i suspect any S&W dealer could order you one, or they show up used now and again. They are worth hunting down, they're a barrel of fun in IDPA or IPSC

The 625's are made all the time, the problem is that now they are only made with 3 and 4 inch barrels so they can not come to Canada. They are very easy to get in the US but not here.

You might be able to contact S&W and maybe they would make you a performabce center gun with a longer barrel. If they did I am sure the cost would be very large for it.

Didn't they used to make a 6" version? I know since they made a fair number of 686es with 6" barrels there'd be a market in the south for a 6" .45, and then there'd be a market here too.

How about the Model 1917 .45? S&W lists it as a reproduction model on their website now, meaning they're making them again, I wonder if any dealer could get these?

The Model 25 was made with a 6" or 6.5" barrel...they were splendid guns. I've seen the new repro 1917 revolvers for sale in Calgary [ProLine], tho' not recently. They are quite nice, although you have to accept the old fashioned iron sights....

Graydog hit the nail on the head.. There are lots of 625s in the states... just look on gunbroker... All are 4 inch barrels or shorter... They are great guns.. but prohib here.

Its too bad that we could not import them to a gunsmith who could rebarrel them to Canadian legal size. Oh yah we would need someone with a supply of 5" or 4.2" barrels for these guns.. This is the problem... where do you get barrels that are Canada Legal...?

Alternatively... we could change the 4.2" restriction to 4.0".. oh yah.. anyone seen some flying pigs lately?
