22-250 vs 308 win at 300 yards

The .308 with 168gr will skin the 22/250 shooting the 55gr bullets with the lightest breeze.get a fast twist for your 22 250 and shoot 80 & 90 gr you will be fine

I demolished a 22-250 at the weekend with my 5r in .308. I was shooting 168gn GMM. I was shooting of a bipod. I shot half MOA and he was shooting of a sled and shot 1.5moa. Most of that was left to right movement.

+1. As specified in OP, the .308 is the better choice. With a fast twist and heavy bullets the 22-250 will eat the .308 for lunch, especially as the range increases.

This post is contradictory.

Nemesis, fisrt of all let me say congrats on shooting .5MOA.

And while he did say "the .308 is a better choice" he was refering to the O/P's choice of a 1:12 .22-250 or a 1:10 .308 at 300yds...

His implication that the .22-250 would better a .308 Win, was indicitive of a faster-twist barrel & heavier bullets for the .22-250 (vs. the same 1:10 .308).

Savy ?

.22-250 vs .308 Win at 300 yards ?

Could you tell me what caliber is better for target shooting only.

The twist rate of the 22-250 1:12, and the 308 win is 1:10.

If your target shooting I'd take the 22-250 for the lite recoil and cheaper reload cost . I shoot 60gers out of a savage 12 twist and 52gers out of a Rem 700 varmint, they both shoot under .5moa out to 400 yds even with a stiff breeze, but a well tuned 308 can do this as well so accuracy is not the issue.

you will get roughly 5 to 10 times greater barrel life out of a 308. 22-250 is a fantastic cartrige for varmints with amazing point blank range using light bullets, but it is not kind to barrels

The only production rifle which passed the 1 MOA challenge is a 22-250 Kimber.
You can reach your own conclusions about 300 yards 22-250 effectiveness.

Everyone on any gun forum will tell you that they have a 1/4 MOA, out of the box, bone stock Savage, Remington, Stevens etc. That is until they have to put their money where there mouth is and prove it. I figure all these 1/4 MOA rifles would not have a problem shooting a huge 1 MOA group at 300m. But it seems these 1/4 MOA rifles and their pilots are all too busy to come out and play.

The one shooter that did shoot a 1 MOA group, did it with a .22-250 Kimber rifle.
