I have been reading these threads regarding the Chicom M14s (clones?) I am interested in purchasing one. I should hold out for a Springfield but....... So to tide me over is one of these manufacturers higher quality than the other? Is there another manufacturer that I have missed?
Thanks
BTW great forum:)

Go Chinese either one over Springfield. I own both and have had issues with 1 Springfield, no issues with any of the Chinese.I also have another Springfield that I have had zero problems with.
My problems were extractor related, and the problems with the SA inc extractors have been well documented. The general conclusion is thier extractors are not very good and could give problems.I replaced mine with a Breda Garand extractor and I had SA inc lap a USGI bolt in mine that I provided. At the time I did not know if it was the bolt or extractor, but after 2 trips to SA inc for the same issue,I wanted to be done with it .
So far with the USGI bolt and Garand extractor all has been good!

I looked at springfield 2100-2500.

i bought a norinco for 400 and put another 1000 or so into it

What I ended up with is a better quality gun for around 1400....

lots of people say springfield has as many issues as norinco ;)

I have two Norinco receivers that are heel stamped like this one.

The rest of them are heel stamped Poly Tech receivers like this one.

It's been my experience that the quality of Chinese M14s found here in the states
is basically the same, but the Poly Tech M14s usually have a better looking finish.

You really can't go wrong with either 'brand name'.
