where do you buy brass from

I buy where ever I can find what I need. Lapua is well worth the money, it is top quality brass. Hirsch Precision is great to deal with for lapua products.
Prophet Rivers is a sponsoring dealer that also deals in Lapua.
 
Usually from local gun shop.

Lapua might be worth it for an accurate bolt, but if it's AR or Mini 14 ammo it may not be the best choice $ wise.
 
Actually I noticed this and forgot. With some calibres the Lapua price is better as you said.
 
If you were to prep North American brass until it replicated the uniformity of Lapua brass, you would have invested a significant amount of time and money doing so. In that case, using Lapua brass out of the box represents a worth while investment. If you're anal enough to uniform Lapua brass, you might as well start with North American brass as your investment in time and equipment will be the same. If you don't prep your brass beyond cleaning primer pockets and resizing, just buy North American brass, you won't see an advantage with Lapua.
 
Then I'd say yes, buy the Lapua. Lapua online is really only a little more than winchester from my local guy. At least that was the case with 308.

For this chambering, been there, dont' use it anymore.

Win brass seems to end up in a variety of FTR rifles these days and what I use in my rifles.

For the best brass today, Norma wants that crown and given its corporate situation and product I have seen and used, making it happen.

For the 223, Win brass does what I need and want for 1000yds F TR shooting. If money was no object, Norma would get the nod and Yes, I have shot it and it is wonderful stuff.

And NO, it is not soft....

If you have a bit of time on your hands, SFRC (site sponsor) has/had 1F range brass (EE is another great source). Some were pretty much all Win with a crimped primer pocket. The stuff I have is very nice and the same as commercial with the added joy of the crimp.

The crimp only needs to be removed once and for the cost (around 8cents each to your door), that is a good way to pay yourself. Same goes for the flash hole deburr. I was surprised to see some recent stuff without a burr - luck? improvement in production? who knows....I'll take it.

American eagle is also great brass and most just leave it on the range floor. Odds are you can find enough shot up this weekend for a lot of LR fun. Just watch the AR shooters when they open up a few boxes of ammo. Same lot so brass will be consistent.

A couple of hundred cases doesn't take long for these guys to spit out and that fired brass may just fit that Savage with min sizing.

PRVI is another great value product. Personally not used it but it looks great and no one has complained.

As for case prep, if you shoot any volume of 223, be prepared for case prep either now or a few firings from now. There is no way around it so I have tooled up to deal with it

The best thing you can do to improve your 223 accuracy will be to get a good quality gem scale. Here you will gain far more then any brass will ever give you.

Then quality seater (forster or Redding) and quality bullets - lots to choose from.
