I am in the process of reloading a .41 Long Colt for a buddy of mine and this is tuning out to be a bit more than I had bargained for but it has been a good learning process for me.

Right now I have some Missouri cast .41 - 215gn SWC bullets and I am looking for some load data (powder and grains) that anybody would be willing to share with me.

Thanks!

I reload for the 41 Long Colt and there is nothing special to it. If it is the first firearm you have reloaded for it might be a bit of a challenge. I have used Unique and Bullseye with good success, just use 10% less than the published data below to start and finish with if you are getting good groups. My 41 Long Colt was made in 1894 and if yours is old you don’t want to put too much pressure on it.

You will never go wrong with either of those powders in older guns shooting cast.

I have redding dies.

Im loading the short version of .41 Long Colt with the .932 case length. This uses a "heeled" bullet. The bullet is the same diameter as the case, like a .22lr, so you cannot crimp the case the same way you would do most modern case neck, since the crimping would hit the bullet first.

You need a crimping die like a modified Lee collect factory crimp die, or a die in 2 halfs that crimps like wire crimpers.

Thanks for the explanation, it all makes sense now. Someone had a post here before on how to make the tool and someone was selling one at one time. If I could only figure out how to get the search function working better.
