looking for a good rear bag

If you want to spend some money, order a Edgewood bag from Sinclair Intl. you can even get the heavy sand and filling funnel from them, and shipping to Canada isn't that bad. I got one a couple weeks ago.

Talk to Jerry at Mystic, he carries Protektor rear bags. They are a significant step up from the Caldwell bags, and about half the price of the Edgewoods.

Is it for bench/competition or for use in the field?

x2, bought a protektor rear from Jerry a couple of year ago. I use it with calibres from 223 to big boomers. Protektor make good, hard wearing, decent value bags.

I made my own from a MOLLE utility pouch, with some sand and memory foam. It works perfectly for what I want it. Plus if your into the "tacticool" thing. Then you can customize its pattern etc.

Just a idea.

I would go with Edgewood, but if you get a protektor make sure it has Cordura ears, the leather gets sticky when wet, or humid and the rifle does not slide smoothly, you can use powder but that gets to be a mess if it gets wet. With cordura you can use silicon spray (from CDN tire) and they work just as well dry as in the rain

Thanks for the silicon spray tip. I never would have thought of that. I just bought a bottle of baby powder this morning for my cordura ears. :D

Silicon sounds way better.

I got a Protektor model 14 from Brownells and it's an awesome bag. Still need to put a bit more sand into it, but awesome quality!

If I had known Mystic carried em I'd have gotten one from them :p

My wife made me a rear bag. I love it. She even stitched my nickname into it. I believe she filled it with popcorn.... or something of the sort.
You can keep your overpriced bags, this one works very well. :p

I actually prefer it over my Caldwell "bunny ears"
