Gun is a S&W Model 66 in .357 mag. Use is casual range shooting with a bit of local level competition shooting requiring the occasional fast reload.

Brownell's lists a pile of choices that will work for me, which is the problem. I have HKS loaders for my Redhawk and they are OK, but I am thinking that I would like to try something a bit faster. The Safariland Comp II's look good and price is not bad, while the Comp III's are almost double the price of the II's. If I was seriously shooting competition I would pony up for the III's, but I don't think I need them for the extra money.

What do people think of the II's as compared to HKS and are the II's a good choice overall? Do they last well with the all plastic construction?

Thanks,
Mark

Comp 2's work just fine, require less thought to use than the HKS and last quite well. I have a few that have been kicking around for 10 years of use and they're still good. Once you get used to loading the loaders, they're a breeze to use and quite fast.

I've got all 4 (HKS, Comp I, Comp II, Comp III) and the III's get the most use of all. The Comp I's are for the J frame .38's, and the N frame .357's and .44's and they work better than the HKS but I wish they made III's for those gun also. I'd ante up the extra for those any day.

As for durability, I have Comp III that have been kicking around since the OPP were using Model 10's and they still work great...

Once you use the III's you'll never use anything else again. I had I's for my 66, i now have 7 III's. give the I's to folk you don't like. II's are ok for casual range use, but for competition no sense running anything but III's if they're available

Apparently, it is settled. I will try the II's and understand that I may invest in some III's along the way. The speedloader pouches I have on the way have a cover flap and will not fit the III's, so the II's also work better for me on that count as well.

Thanks for all the replies,
Mark

Unless of course you discover Jetloaders.;)

Unless they're for duty use there really is no need for covered loader pouches - the open top Safariland triples fit II's or III's but only for K-frames.

I have also tried the Jetloader and find nothing to recommend it over the Comp III's for my purposes...

Where are people getting their Safariland speedloaders? Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

Good question, I just got an email from Brownells saying they won't ship internationally due to an agreement with Safariland. If I have to deal with R.Nichols (the Canadian Safariland distributor) for these I will buy any other brand on the planet first.

Here comes the RNicholls motto; "RNicholls, because you suck and we hate you" :dancingbanana: of course it could equally be "All hope abandon yee who want cool stuff"
